Kneel, Darling, Your Trophy Wife Is Gone Chapter 01
I was the laughingstock wife of high society.
Other mafia wives only needed a single sentence to make their husband’s mistress disappear from the city overnight.
Not me.
I was the one constantly getting stepped on by Ethan Moretti’s women.
His second mistress once admired the ring on my finger—the one that marked me as the Moretti family’s wife. I smiled, slipped it off myself, and handed it to her.
When the fourth one miscarried, Ethan told me to take care of her. I quietly spent an entire month acting as her personal caretaker.
The sixth decided she wanted our room. I didn’t argue. I moved into a guest room myself and even had the staff change the sheets to something softer for her.
Until this time.
Ethan’s newest obsession was Hazel Cross, a gorgeous race car driver with a vicious temper.
She loved Ethan like a sickness.
The night we fought, she lost control and slashed my face open.
And when the blade came down, I didn’t even try to dodge.
I didn’t call the police. I didn’t have her dragged away.
I simply went to the hospital alone.
“Nora, why didn’t you tell me something this serious happened? The house staff called my assistant, otherwise I never would’ve known.”
Ethan’s voice came through the phone low and smooth, with unmistakable anger buried underneath. But the second he saw the gash across my face—deep enough to nearly expose bone—that anger instantly shifted into something closer to heartbreak.
“Nora,” he said quietly, “I won’t let this slide. Hazel’s going to pay for what she did to you.”
I was about to tell him not to bother.
But before I could speak, the bodyguards shoved the door open and dragged Hazel into the room.
She was sobbing hysterically, mascara smeared down her face, her eyes locked desperately on Ethan.
“Ethan! You told me your marriage to Nora was just business! You said I was the one you loved! So why are you doing this to me?!”
Ethan didn’t even look at her.
He lowered his head and carefully dabbed medicine onto my wound with a cotton swab. His movements were gentle, but his expression was cold enough to cut.
“I do love you,” he said calmly. “But Nora is the most important person in my life. You should never have touched her.”
Hazel froze as if someone had smashed a brick into her chest.
“W-What did you say?”
Ethan still didn’t look up.
“You disappointed me.”
He paused briefly, like he was deciding something insignificant.
“She cut Nora once. So give her five back.”
Finally, he lifted his eyes toward me.
“Is that okay with you, Nora?”
I lowered my gaze.
“Whatever you think is fair.”
Something dark flashed through his eyes, almost like relief.
The moment the bodyguards pinned Hazel down, she completely broke apart.
Ethan had someone bring him a scalpel.
Then he did it himself.
The room filled with screams and the sharp clatter of metal.
By the time Hazel broke free and stumbled out of the room, she barely looked human anymore.
Ethan calmly set the scalpel back onto the tray and wiped the blood from his hands with almost obsessive care. Then he bent down and pressed a kiss to my forehead.
“I have something to deal with at the company. I’ll come back later tonight.”
I forced myself not to pull away.
Just as he turned to leave, I handed him a stack of papers and a pen.
“The hospital still needs signatures for the surgical forms.”
He didn’t even glance at them before signing his name and walking out.
The second the door closed, the room fell silent.
Slowly, I walked to the window.
Downstairs, the car Ethan claimed was heading to a business meeting hadn’t driven off yet.
He was gripping Hazel by the wrist, pulling her into his arms while quietly comforting her, kissing her forehead over and over until she started crying and laughing at the same time.
Then he scooped her into his arms and carried her toward the VIP building across from mine.
I stood there watching the entire thing.
Suddenly, my stomach twisted violently.
I ran into the bathroom and threw up until there was nothing left.
In the end, all that remained was my exhausted body sliding weakly onto the floor beside the toilet.
Only then did the tears finally fall.
Ethan…
Why does loving you hurt this much?
