I Saw My Alpha Mate’s Betrayal, So I Changed Fate Chapter 08
When they find me, I’m in the park with my camera, taking pictures.
These days, I’m a photographer.
Landon gives me enough freedom and respect that I no longer have to please my parents by doing work I don’t enjoy.
But when Nolan suddenly steps into my frame, my hand jerks, and I take a useless shot.
“Harper!”
He rushes toward me, looking as haggard as a homeless man, then drops to his knees in front of
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have married Abigail. I shouldn’t have lied to you…”
His trembling hand reaches into his pocket and pulls out a ring.
“The Luna ring is yours. It always has been. You’re the only woman I’ve ever loved. Abigail fooled
me.”
He reaches for my hand.
“Come back with me, please. We’ll get married. I’ll design the Bonding Ceremony exactly the way you want. I’ve already planned everything.”
“I know you don’t love Landon.”
I look at his pathetic state and smile faintly.
“Who told you I don’t?”
I calmly pull my hand away from his dirty fingers. The ring on my left hand catches the light, its cold gleam flashing across his eyes.
“The moment I walked away from you, I gave myself completely to a new life.”
“What makes you think I’d waste another second hurting myself over trash like you?”
“And besides, you’re talking about Landon. You couldn’t measure up to him in this life, let alone
the next.”
Nolan’s face turns deathly pale.
His lips tremble, but he can’t say another word.
He knows he can never compare to Landon.
And I’m no longer the Harper he remembers, the one who is easily softened and always comes
anning back
I’ve already reached a place he can never touch.
“Harper.”
The next person to speak is Marcus.
“I’m sorry.”
Another apology.
But coming from Marcus, it sounds even more ridiculous.
Nolan is at least an outsider.
Marcus was once my own brother, born to the same mother as me.
The people who hurt me the most have always been him and my parents.
“I was wrong. I shouldn’t have said those things to you…”
He takes out his phone and holds it out to me.
“You probably already know. Abigail is Dad’s illegitimate daughter. She’s been kicked out of our family and out of Darkstone Pack. Whatever happens to her now has nothing to do with us.”
“Mom was so devastated that she ended up in the hospital. She’s not in her right mind anymore. All
she does is ask to see you.”
Tears suddenly spill down his face. His body hunches slightly, and he doesn’t even dare look me in
the eye.
All he can do is beg in a humbled voice.
“Could you come back with me and see her just once? I’m not asking for anything else. Just this.”
He knows I’ll never return to Darkstone Pack in this lifetime, and he knows he has no right to ask
for my forgiveness.
But when I hear his request, all I feel is confusion.
“I have no reason to visit a stranger.”
“Beta Marcus, you know this. The only connection between us now is the five hundred dollars in
court-ordered support.”
Marcus’s entire body jolts.
He gasps painfully like a drowning man, reaching toward me as if he still has something to say.
But the next moment, my Royal Warriors arrive.
They escort both men out of the park and warn them never to come near me again.
“Harper! Harper…”
They keep calling my name, begging me to come back to them.
I simply walk forward, put on my headphones, and keep going.
Only after they disappear completely from my sight do I take out my camera again and point it at
them.
The photo shows what will happen three days later.
The moment I see it, I freeze for a second.
But soon, I crumple the photo and toss it into the trash without giving it another thought.
Three days later, Nolan and Marcus encounter a rogue on their way back to Darkstone Pack.
One suffers a lung punctured by a claw. The other breaks both legs after a fall.
Both are rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Their injuries are exactly the same as those in the photo I took.
By the time I hear about it, a month has already passed.
“They survived, but I heard they’ll both have some permanent damage.”
Landon holds me, his voice calm.
“And Beta Quinn? I heard she attacked someone at the pack hospital. She even injured her mate and was eventually committed to a psychiatric facility.”
“Do you want to go back to your old pack and see them?”
I stare at the moonlight outside the window, staying silent for a moment before finally shaking my
head.
“No. There’s no need
I already have a new home.
There’s no reason to return to the old one.
From now on, Landon and I will walk the road ahead together.
As long as we keep moving forward, there will always be clear skies and beautiful days waiting for
