On the day of our bonding ceremony, I suggested Chloe serve as the officiant.
The ceremony took place on the walls of Silverpeak Citadel. Everyone else gathered below to watch.
The moment the bond snapped into place, Rowan and I both erupted in light, brilliant, blinding, pulling every eye in the crowd.
No one saw Chloe step over the far side of the wall.
Her hair streamed behind her as she fell, arms spread wide like wings, a hopeful smile breaking across her face. She mouthed two words at me.
I read her lips. She was saying thank you.
When Chloe hit the ground, all seven of her bonded mates collapsed to their knees, vomiting blood at the same instant.

“What did you do to Chloe?”
I kept my face blank.
“I didn’t do anything.”
“Chloe is the chosen one. Maybe the Moon Goddess called her home.”
Three of the strongest lunged at me without another word.
Rowan and Jasper moved at the same time, stepping between them and me.
Rowan’s voice was ice.
“You’ve been reduced to broken Omegas now. I’m a Supreme-tier Alpha. You want to touch Sloane? See if you survive the attempt.”
Jasper stood shoulder to shoulder with his brother.
“Anyone who lays a hand on Sloane makes an enemy of all of Silverpeak Citadel.”
The guards closed in. Chloe’s seven mates, battered and bleeding, turned and ran.
Rowan watched them go. “The backlash will cripple them. They’ll be bottom-tier shifters for the
rest of their lives.”
He turned to me, hand still in mine. “Are you happy?”
I let a slow smile cross my face. “Almost.”
Rowan blinked. “Almost? What’s missing?”
That night, I shoved Rowan onto the bed. A flush had crept from his cheekbones down his neck, and
his voice came out rough.
“Is this the part that was missing?”
“This is exactly the part.”
I pulled the hide covering off him in one motion and grinned.
“Wow. They were right. You really are impressive.”
