I Broke Up With Him After The Concert Kiss Chapter 01

After the graduation ceremony marking the end of the SAT, I went to a concert with my boyfriend and my best friend.

When the big screen randomly cut to the three of us, the crowd erupted into cheers, egging the couple on to kiss.

My face flushed, and I leaned in, but Silas Hale let out a soft laugh.

He turned his head and, amid the screams, pressed a deep, passionate kiss on my best friend’s lips.

When the camera moved away, Silas pulled back, clearly wanting more.

Meeting my stunned gaze, he casually wiped the lipstick off his lips.

“Sorry, reflex. Guess we’ve done it too many times.”

My best friend hung her head in shame.

Silas brushed my hair gently, as if comforting me.

“You’re too pure. I can’t bear to touch you. Lila’s different—she’s more open.”

He looked at me like it was the most natural thing in the world, his eyes warm and unapologetic.

“I give my body to her, but my heart to you. It doesn’t change that I love you the most.”

Blood rushed to my head, and a ringing sound pierced my ears.

Amid the deafening noise, I stared at the two of them, clinging to each other.

“Silas Hale, we’re done.”

The noise around me seemed to fade away.

I watched the two tangled figures, my stomach churning.

Instead of getting angry at my breakup line, Silas smiled.

He let go of Lila and smoothed out his rumpled shirt.

“Elowen, stop being dramatic.”

I stepped back, dodging his outstretched hand.

“I’m not being dramatic.”

Silas pulled his hand back and scoffed dismissively.

“I know you’re upset right now, but think about it.”

“If I didn’t love you, why would I go out of my way to change your college applications?”

I froze in place.

My heart skipped a beat.

“What did you say?”

Silas met my eyes, unashamed.

“Your SAT applications. I swapped your first choice, Ivy League University, for a local community college.”

“Ivy League’s too hard. I don’t want you working yourself ragged like you did senior year.”

“Just get a degree at the community college, and I’ll take care of you after graduation. What more could you want?”

I understood every word he said, but together, they made no sense.

I was top of my class, staying up countless nights with red, bleary eyes.

I’d pushed myself to the point of extreme exhaustion to get into that top-tier university.

And he’d ruined it all with a single, careless act.

“If you left town, how would the three of us stay together?”

“It’s a little unfair for a top student like you to go to community college, but it means we’ll never be apart.”

I trembled all over, my nails digging into my palms.

This was my future.

Lila’s eyes welled with tears, and she grabbed the hem of my shirt.

“Elowen, I only stayed with Silas so you wouldn’t get distracted.”

She sobbed, looking as wronged as could be.

I shook her hand off hard.

“You stayed with him that far—sleeping together right after the SAT?”

“Lila, do you hear how ridiculous that sounds?”

Lila bit her lip, tears streaming down her cheeks, too scared to argue.

Silas stepped forward, pulling Lila tightly into his arms.

He frowned, glaring at me with irritation.

“Elowen, don’t be ungrateful! We’ve sacrificed so much for you!”

He wiped Lila’s tears with a pained expression.

“We waited until she turned eighteen before I touched her, so you wouldn’t get dragged into trouble.”

“She’s the one who’s been wronged. What right do you have to yell at her?”

A huge hole seemed to tear open in my chest.

Disgusting.

Absolutely disgusting.

“How dare you change my applications! How dare you ruin my life!”

I screamed at him, losing control, tears spilling down my face.

Panicked, Lila waved her hands, trying to pull me close.

“Elowen, don’t blame Silas. It’s my fault…”

Before she could finish, her breathing turned sharp and ragged.

Her face turned pale blue.

Her emotions had spiked, triggering an asthma attack.

“Lila! Hold on!”

Silas grabbed her and sprinted toward the arena exit like a madman.

The crowd surged around us.

The concert had just ended.

I stumbled backward, knocked around by the crowd moving in the opposite direction.

Someone shoved me hard, and I fell heavily onto the steps.

Countless feet stepped around me.

People jostled past, some stepping on the back of my hand.

Agony shot through me.

Lying on the ground, I watched Silas’s retreating figure, carrying Lila in his arms, desperate and unhurried.

Before my vision blurred into darkness, he never looked back at me once.
