I Bought Two Wolf Brothers For Warmth And The Comments Called Me Evil Chapter 07
Silas figured it out first. He always did.
He stood in the doorway, watching me for a long time, clicking the pieces into place one by one
“That night you kicked us out. That wasn’t just a tantrum.”
“You saw the comments.”
“When you came to camp the next day, that wasn’t a coincidence either.”
“And you wanted out of the contract because you already knew what was coming.”
With every line, the cold in my chest sank deeper.
Jaxon caught up a beat later.
“So this black panther. You found him because you thought we were going to leave you for someone
else?”
Kaelen’s arm tightened around me, like he was bracing for me to pull away.
Something inside me gave way. There was no point pretending anymore.
Silas was the first to try.
“We didn’t go to Chloe because we had feelings for her.”
“The comments were saying from the start that she was the fated one, that we’d end up bound to her, that we’d change because of her.”
He paused.
“So we wanted to test it. We wanted to see if what they predicted would actually come true.”
Jaxon jumped in, talking too fast, stumbling over his own words.
“We’re not idiots. We weren’t going to follow some script.”
“She came to us, so we played along. That’s all.”
I listened, and with every word, something in my chest went a little colder.
I looked up at them, and my voice came out quiet.
“Then you both already knew I was going to end up in the underground arena.”
Neither of them spoke.
That silence told me everything.
I was done swallowing my pain.
“If you already knew, why didn’t you tell me?”
“Why didn’t you warn me, protect me, do anything to stop it?”
“Why was your first instinct to hide it, leave me behind, and run off to see whether some other woman really was your fated mate?”
Every sentence landed, and Jaxon flinched harder each time.
Silas said nothing.
They clearly wanted to explain. But what was left to say?
That they didn’t mean it? That they just needed to prove the script first? Or that it never crossed their minds I’d figure it out on my own?
None of it mattered anymore.
Jaxon stepped forward and reached for me.
“That’s not what…”
I stepped back before his hand reached me.
His hand froze in the air, and he went pale.
I held his gaze and spoke slowly, every word deliberate.
“Outside your tent, I heard what you said.”
Jaxon went rigid.
Silas’s head snapped up.
I threw their own words back in their faces.
“With her condition, she won’t last without us.”
“Once the symptoms get bad enough, she’ll come crawling back on her own.”
“No beast shifter in this city would touch her.”
“Was that a misunderstanding too?”
Jaxon’s mouth opened, but nothing came out.
Silas swallowed hard. The color drained from his face, slow and steady.
I was so tired.
“Maybe what you’re saying now is true. Maybe you do care.”
“Maybe going to Chloe really was about testing fate. But none of that matters.”
“Because the way you hurt me was real. And I’m done waiting around to be tested against someone
else’s story.”
“So this is where it ends.”
Something in Jaxon’s eyes broke. His control snapped, and he lunged.
“Elara!”
He hadn’t reached me before Kaelen moved.
Kaelen didn’t look at me, didn’t hesitate. He caught Jaxon’s arm, wrenched it back, and slammed
him into the opposite wall.
Jaxon slammed into the plaster, and his claws shot out on instinct.
Silas came in the next second, cutting fast from the side, trying to force Kaelen away from me.
I’d expected a real fight.
What I got was an absolute slaughter.
Kaelen barely broke a sweat.
He caught Jaxon by the back of the neck and drove him into the wall so hard the plaster cracked. When Silas came at him from the side, Kaelen kicked the coffee table into his path and sent him
stumbling back.
The whole thing lasted seconds.
And when it was over, Kaelen stood exactly where he’d started. He wasn’t even breathing hard.
His black tail hung low behind him, and the pressure rolling off his body was suffocating.
The floating comments went wild.
[wait?? that power level is NOT right]
[he just handled both snow wolf brothers at once. that is NOT a regular black panther]
holy crap I know who he is]
(ISN’T THIS THE NORTHERN RIDGE VILLAIN?!)
[the one with the ancient bloodline]
[he was supposed to be found by Chloe in the original plot. how did he end up with the villainess first]
I read those words, and for a second, I forgot how to breathe.
The Northern Ridge villain. The one with the ancient bloodline.
In the original story, he was supposed to belong to Chloe.
From the moment I brought Kaelen home, the plot had already shattered.
