Her Joke Cost Him Everything Chapter 03
Passengers stood up one after another, pointing in Sloane’s face. “What the hell is wrong with you? You think risking everyone’s life is a joke?”
Sloane shrank back, her eyes welling up again.
“I, I’m just a good actress. Is that a crime? Jacob, I’m scared. Why are they being so mean to me?”
She burrowed into Jacob’s chest, acting as if she were the victim of some grand injustice.
Jacob held her tight, his voice dripping with nonchalant arrogance.
“She’s young. She’s just a bit playful. Besides, nothing actually happened, did it? Why are you all making such a big deal out of nothing?”
Even the flight attendant standing nearby couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
Despite the tension, protocols had to be followed.
The crew suppressed their anger and moved to calm the rest of the cabin.
gh the transfer logs, hospital
The purser knelt to inspect the opere Auto–added to the Library certifications, and handover documents I provided.
Her expression darkened with every page.
“This is indeed an emergency medical shipment,” she said, her voice heavy with professional
gravity.
“We’ll increase our air speed to arrive as early as possible-”
“Don’t you dare,” Jacob interrupted, his voice cold.
I turned my head. Jacob was wiping Sloane’s tears, his movements as gentle as if he were soothing a
toddler.
He didn’t even look up. “Flying too fast or descending too sharply causes turbulence. Sloane will get
scared.”
“The marrow can wait a few minutes. What if the turbulence traumatizes her?”
I lowered my gaze, refusing to say a word.
The purser opened her mouth to argue, then simply turned and walked away.
Now that the heat was off her, Sloane started getting restless again.
“Jacob, my stomach feels weird. I really wish I had something ice–cold to drink.”
Jacob looked down at her and let out a soft laugh. “You little brat. If you wanted a drink, just say so. Why the drama?”
But the flight attendant had already made it clear there were no cold beverages available.
Sloane’s eyes darted around until they landed on the Bone Marrow Cryo–cooler at my feet.
“Isn’t that box freezing? We could use it to chill our sodas.”
This time, I didn’t even feel the urge to stop her.
The cells were already dead. Fighting was pointless.
But just because I wasn’t fighting didn’t mean I was going to take the fall for them.
I looked at Jacob, my tone as flat and professional as a court reporter. “Mr. Harrison, you are the recipient’s legal next–of–kin.”

“Opening this cryo–cooler again wil
come non–viable.”
“Please confirm. Do you authorize opening the unit and moving the biological contents?”
I put a sharp, deliberate emphasis on the word CONFIRM.
Jacob’s brow furrowed with pure impatience.
“Carey, are you done? You think opening a lid magically ruins the marrow? Who are you trying to scare?”
“Sloane grew up as a charity case. She’s never been on a plane. She’s excited. She wants a cold drink, and you’re just bitter about it?”
I nodded calmly. “So, you are confirming the opening?”
“Confirm. Do it.”
He didn’t even wait for a crew member. He leaned over and ripped the lid open himself.
Jacob tossed the sterile packing materials and the cell bags aside like they were literal trash.
Sloane smiled triumphantly, stuffing her drinks into the box. “Jacob, you’re the best.”
I sat back, closed my eyes, and rested.
When the plane finally touched down and the doors opened, Jacob grabbed Sloane’s bag with one
hand and shielded her with the other as they walked out.
He had completely forgotten I was his girlfriend.
He had also forgotten that this trip wasn’t a getaway with Sloane. It was a mission to save his
mother’s life.
I suppressed every emotion and quietly packed up the ruined cooler.
Outside the airport, the Harrison family driver was already waiting, checking his watch frantically. As soon as we got into the car, Sloane wrapped her arms around Jacob’s.
Her voice was sugary sweet. “Jacob, it’s such a beautiful day. Can we go to Disneyland before the hospital?”
