Hearing My Husband’s Secret Thoughts, and Let Karma Find Him Chapter 08
At ten o’clock the next morning, at the Downtown
Convention Center, Apex Group’s product launch went ahead as scheduled.
The venue was packed with tabloid reporters,
paparazzi, and anti–corporate protesters holding
signs.
Camera flashes went off one after another.
I walked straight out from backstage and stopped
at the center of the stage.
Just as I was about to speak, the doors to the hall were shoved open.
“Tessa! How dare you stand up there?”
Ryan rushed into the venue, surrounded by a
crowd of people.
Behind him came my aunt, pushing a wheelchair.
Ryan’s mother sat in it, one leg in a cast.
Every camera in the room immediately swung
toward them.
The livestream chat filled the entire screen with
comments supporting Ryan and cursing me out.
Ryan walked to the foot of the stage and looked
up at me.
The corner of his mouth twitched upward before
he quickly forced it back down and squeezed out
a few tears.
Right there in front of the entire livestream, he dropped to one knee.
“Tessa! I’m begging you!”
Ryan shouted at the top of his lungs.
“For the past three years, I worked myself to the bone for you. Even if I earned no credit, I still
worked hard for this family.”
“Even if you were seeing another man, even if you
stopped your father’s treatment, even if you
saddled me with massive debt, I can let all of that
go.”
“As long as you admit your mistakes now, hand over the core technology you transferred, and let me save Apex, I’m still willing to stay married to
you.”
“I’ll protect you from going to prison.”
That speech pushed hypocrisy and emotional
blackmail to the extreme.
He pinned the accusations of infidelity and asset.
theft on me.
At the same time, he packaged himself as a man sacrificing everything for the bigger picture.
Beside him, my aunt wiped her tears and added, “Members of the press, look at him. Ryan has been wronged this badly, and he’s still trying to
protect this vicious woman.”
“Apex Group must be handed over to him. Only then can tens of thousands of employees keep
their jobs.”
The livestream chat went wild.
[Oh my God. Mr. Lawson is incredible. What kind
of perfect husband is this?]
[Tessa needs to die already. Stop dragging Apex. employees down with you.]
[Sign the papers and hand over the company. You
don’t deserve to run Apex.]
Amid the curses filling the room, Ryan’s thoughts
entered my mind.
[Idiot. Are you scared now? Are you shaking? How
does it feel to have tens of millions of people
pointing at you and cursing you out?]
[Weren’t you so proud? Even if you get on your
knees and lick my shoes now, all I need is for you
to hand over the source code.]
[The second I get power, I’ll chop you into pieces
and dump you in the river to feed the fish.]
He was convinced I couldn’t prove my innocence
in front of tens of millions of online viewers.
He was convinced the online mob could crush me
outright.
I stood on the stage and looked down at this man.
Then I laughed straight into the microphone.
My laughter echoed through the entire venue.
Everyone at the scene stopped moving and stared
at me.
The expression on Ryan’s face froze.
“Ryan, did you really think that muddying the water would let a sewer rat pass for a king?”
I stopped laughing and raised my hand, pointing at
the giant wraparound screen behind me.
“Since you love livestreams so much, today we’re
going to hold a public trial for the entire world to
see.”
