Hearing My Husband’s Secret Thoughts, and Let Karma Find Him Chapter 04
At three in the morning, the front door of the mansion was kicked open.
Ryan stormed into my bedroom with Summer, Ryan’s mother, and several bodyguards.
His eyes were bloodshot, and his tie had been yanked loose and crooked.
With the failed venture blowing up and the company’s core data frozen, he was now facing a $700 million demand for repayment.
[I have to make this idiot sign the change-of-registered-officer form and the absolute debt-assumption agreement. She can take the fall for this $700 million disaster for me. Better yet, she can rot in prison for the rest of her life.]
I curled into the corner of the bed, hugging my knees.
“Ryan, what happened in the middle of the night?”
Ryan threw an agreement at me.
“There’s a huge problem at the company! Tessa, didn’t you say you’d do anything for me? Sign it right now and put your name down as the company’s registered officer!”
“What… what does this mean?”
My hands trembled as I held the agreement.
“Cut the fucking crap!”
Summer stepped forward and slapped the frame off my nightstand.
Inside it was an antique pocket watch, a gift from my father.
Summer stepped on the pocket watch and crushed the glass face under her heel.
“Summer! What are you doing?” I lunged forward, only to be pinned down on the bed by the bodyguards.
“What are you yelling for?” Ryan’s mother rushed up and pointed at me as she cursed.
“You barren hen. The company needs money now, so what’s wrong with putting your name on it? Trading your father’s life for my son’s future is a privilege the Sullivan family should thank its lucky stars for!”
“My father’s life?” I lifted my head.
Ryan stared at me.
“Tessa, I forgot to tell you. Ten minutes ago, I stopped paying for all of your father’s private ICU care. I also told the caregiver that if I don’t call within half an hour to renew the payment, they’ll disconnect that old bastard’s oxygen line.”
“You’re threatening me with my father’s life? Ryan Lawson, are you even human?”
I struggled hard, tears spilling down my face.
[Yes. That’s it. Cry. Despair. I’ve put up with you for three years, and tonight I’m going to make you bleed for it.]
Ryan stepped on the broken glass and pointed at the floor.
“Tessa, kneel. Kneel and beg Summer to forgive you for making things hard for her. Beg me to show you mercy. As long as you sign like a good girl, I’ll renew the medical payments, and I’ll still be your loving husband.”
I stared at the shards on the floor and bit my tongue hard enough to draw blood.
Then I bent my knees and knelt on the broken glass.
“I’ll sign… please, don’t stop my dad’s treatment…”
I grabbed the pen, signed my name on the last page, and pressed my fingerprint onto it.
Then I handed the agreement back to him.
“Hahaha! She signed it! She actually signed it!” Ryan took the contract and kicked me to the floor.
He grabbed Summer, kissed her, then pulled out a pregnancy test report and slapped it against my face as he burst out laughing.
“Tessa, you spoiled idiot! Let me tell you the truth. Summer is already pregnant with my son. I never planned to pay for your father’s treatment at all. Apex is mine now, and you can take this $700 million debt to prison and play the dutiful daughter to that old bastard you call a father!”
They all laughed at once.
I didn’t cry or scream. I slowly stood up, brushed the glass shards off my knees, and wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth.
Then I looked at them and laughed.
“Ryan,” I said, staring at him, “you celebrated a little too soon. Did you actually read the last clause of that contract? Did you check whose name is listed as the debtor of record for this $700 million?”
