He Wanted Me Hidden, I Became Untouchable Chapter 09

When Julian showed up at the Whitmore estate, Grant was laying down three rules for me.

I wasn’t allowed to date anyone behind his back. I wasn’t allowed to go through another Julian Ashford situation. And I wasn’t allowed to turn down his confession.

I could only roll my eyes, exasperated.

Grant pretended not to notice and leaned in to kiss me again.

I immediately backed away.

Luckily, Dad appeared at exactly the right moment. Before Grant confessed his feelings, he had been a

respectable older brother. Afterward, he had apparently decided dignity was optional.

He’d switched from calling Dad “Father” to calling him “Dad,” just like I did.

Dad noticed nothing strange. He acted as if that was how things had always been.

I stayed silent. I didn’t dare tell him what Grant had done to me.

“What are you two up to now? We have a guest,” Dad reminded us.

Only then did I notice Julian standing by the front door in a perfectly tailored suit.

He was holding a basket of fruit, and when he looked at me, his eyes held the same indulgent warmth as

always.

The distance between us seemed to vanish, as if he’d simply come home after a business trip.

But I knew better.

There was no future left for us.

Over the past few days, Julian had sent me message after message and called repeatedly…

When he realized I’d blocked him, he started using different numbers.

He said he didn’t love Lauren at all and had married her only because the family needed it, baby and all.

He said all his love belonged to me, and if I was willing, we could keep our relationship exactly as it had been.

When I heard that, I almost laughed out loud.

How could Julian think that after betraying me so completely, I would calmly forgive him?

“Luna. It’s been a long time,” Julian said first.

Dad looked genuinely surprised. He glanced at Julian. “You know my daughter?”

“We met in Baycrest. We got along well,” Julian replied politely.

Clearly, even now, Julian had no intention of admitting what we’d really been to each other.

Grant gave a mocking laugh and was about to say something cruel when I reached up and covered his

mouth.

“Grant, go talk business with Dad.”

“I have something to discuss with Mr. Ashford alone.”

Grant’s eyes darkened. He stared straight at me.

I looked away, feeling suddenly guilty.

Dad didn’t question it. He simply patted Grant on the shoulder. Grant had no choice but to leave.

Soon, only Julian and I remained in the living room.

Julian took a step toward me. I calmly moved around him and sat down on the sofa across from him.

My face stayed blank, and my heart stayed surprisingly calm.

At first, I’d thought…

Seeing Julian again would make me lose control.

“Julian, you really have some nerve,” I said sarcastically.

Julian didn’t get angry. Instead, he looked at me with that same gentle expression.

“If I didn’t have some nerve, I would’ve already lost my wife.”

He said it with a straight face, and I laughed in disbelief. “Wife? Julian, do you really think chasing me until 1 cave is going to work now?”

“We’re over. So let me make this clear. Don’t come back here again.”

“There’s nothing left for us to discuss. I sent Dad away to spare both of us the embarrassment. Do you

understand?”

After saying that, I had just turned to call for the butler when Julian spoke again.

“I know you’re angry. I also know you still have feelings for me. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have rejected the arrangement with Elliot.”

“Luna, I know what I did was unforgivable. If you need to hit me or curse me out, I’ll take it.”

“But the three years we spent together were real for me.”

“You’re not like anyone else.”

“How am I different?” I paused, then let out another bitter laugh. “Oh, I guess I am different. Other women who sleep with married men at least know they’re the other woman. What did that make me?”

“You say those three years wete real for you. Did my feelings mean nothing?”

The room fell silent.

Julian looked down at me his expression impossible to read.

“What would it take for you to forgive me?”

I lifted my eyes coldly to meet his. “Do you really think that still matters?”

“It stopped mattering a long time ago.”

With that, I stood.

“Butler, show him out.”

As Julian was shown out of the Whitmore estate, he said, “I know what I have to do now.”

“Luna, I’d give up everything for you, even if it meant starting over from nothing.”

He would never tell Luna that he could live with a marriage to Lauren in name only, but he couldn’t accept Luna no longer loving him.

To Julian, Luna was the only light in his otherwise dull life.

He was always weighing one choice against another.

At first, he had even considered giving Luna up.

But he hadn’t been able to stand even a few days without contact. How could he endure Luna leaving him

forever?

So he stopped weighing Luna’s place in his heart and questioning it.

In his entire life, he had surrendered completely to only one person: Luna.
