He Wanted Me Hidden, I Became Untouchable Chapter 07

He Wanted Me Hidden, I Became Untouchable Chapter 07

That very evening, Julian’s nephew asked me to dinner the next day. I didn’t turn him down.

I showed up on time the following day.

I’d expected him to choose an expensive restaurant, but he took me to a family–style grill instead.

It was a chain restaurant. Julian and I used to come here all the time in Baycrest. Back then, he had said, “I

love places that feel this down–to–earth.”

Now I wondered if that had been another lie.

Suddenly, a six–foot–one guy sprang up from the crowd and waved at me excitedly.

“Emmy!”

I blinked, then looked over and smiled.

He was bright and easygoing, with none of the awkward reserve I’d expected. He was only twenty, a college junior, and an excellent violinist.

“Hi, Emmy. My name’s Elliot Ashford.”

He extended his hand politely. I smiled and shook it.

“Nice to meet you, Elliot. I’m Emilia.”

Before coming, I’d expected the age gap between us to make things awkward. Instead, Elliot was nothing

like Julian.

One was almost too outgoing; the other was too withdrawn, buried under the weight of his own thoughts.

Then again, anyone who could take control of an empire at eighteen and stay on top of it wasn’t exactly

ordinary.

Though he was young, he had impeccable manners.

If I could ignore the way he kept staring at me, I might have given him a perfect score.

His interest in me was practically written across his face.

So when dinner ended, he looked at me nervously. “Emmy, so… could we get married?”

I stared at him, too stunned to respond.

He scratched his temple with one finger and said awkwardly,

“To be honest, I’m kind of scared of my uncle Julian. I was worried I’d mess up this whole meeting.”

When he saw my expression change, he hurried to add,

“But I swear, I really do like you. I want to marry you.”

I smiled and was about to answer when Grant suddenly appeared behind me.

“What’s your sincerity worth?” he asked, each word perfectly clear.

Elliot’s smile froze. I turned toward Grant in shock.

“This marriage isn’t happening,” Grant added, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Elliot looked as if he wanted to say something.

Then, in front of everyone, Grant hoisted me over his shoulder with one arm and carried me away.

My eyes widened. I couldn’t process what was happening.

It wasn’t until he opened the car door, forced me into the passenger seat, and dropped me there that I finally

came back to myself.

“Grant, what the hell is wrong with you?”

Grant didn’t answer. He calmly took my phone.

He unlocked it, found Julian’s and Elliot’s contacts, and blocked and deleted both in one smooth motion.

“Grant, what are you even…”

He stared at me, and the car fell silent.

I could hear both our breathing and the pounding of our hearts.

Grant didn’t understand it himself. He’d locked himself in his room and spent the whole night thinking

himself half out of his mind.

Why did Julian get to have me? Why did Elliot get to have me? Why not Grant?

The feelings he’d held back for years broke free all at once, and he could no longer control them.

“Emmy…” Grant’s voice was rough.

I frowned.

Something about Grant wasn’t right. That same strange feeling from the night before returned.

“Grant…”

Without warning, Grant leaned toward me.

The moment our lips met, my heart stopped. I couldn’t believe it.

His kiss was clumsy. He kept biting my lower lip as if he didn’t know what else to do.

I shoved at his chest.

He caught both my wrists and pinned them above my head.

I could only endure it.

I had no idea how much time passed before Grant finally said in a hoarse voice, “Yeah. I like you.”

Who had asked him?
