Julian didn’t take Luna’s words to heart.
But what happened that day still caught him off guard.
He hadn’t expected Luna to show up, much less see her run into Lauren and argue with her.

Sitting in the back seat, Julian let his gaze drift over Lauren’s stomach.
The baby.
He had been looking forward to the baby’s arrival. It would have been one more milestone in his life. But now, all he could think was…
The baby had come at the worst possible time.
If it had only been his marriage to Lauren, he might have been able to soothe Luna.
But now there was a child.
Luna couldn’t stand even the slightest flaw in a relationship she believed in. Could she accept this? The answer was obvious.
But he would never let Luna go. She had chosen to enter his world, and he had no intention of letting her go.
Lauren noticed where he was looking and snorted. “Your woman ran into me. I didn’t go looking for her. If I had wanted to find her, I wouldn’t have waited until tonight.”
She wasn’t lying. It really had been an accident.
When Lauren first saw that woman at the party,
she thought she had to be mistaken. She had followed her, only to realize that she was the woman in the photographs inside Julian’s study.
Julian didn’t say much. He didn’t even question her about slapping Luna. He only said calmly,
“Luna is young and inexperienced. Don’t go after her.”
“You and I signed a prenup. We agreed to stay out of each other’s lives after the wedding. We married for mutual benefit. The baby you’re carrying is part of that arrangement too.”
“Lauren, you’re a smart woman.”
By the time he finished speaking, the car had reached the house they shared in the suburbs.
Julian used to go an entire year without visiting. This year, because they were trying to have a child, he had started coming once a month.
Lauren had tried to get him to stay before, but she understood the truth.
A man like Julian, untouchable and admired, would never have become her husband if she hadn’t had something to offer him.
Everyone outside their marriage envied how happy they seemed. But Lauren alone knew the truth.
Their marriage was rotten all the way through.
She could brag about it in front of Luna, but she couldn’t keep pretending in front of Julian.
Lauren gave him a cold smile.
“Julian, I hope you stay this clearheaded forever.”
She opened the door and stepped out. Just before it closed, she added,
“Luna isn’t like you or me. Some kinds of sincerity have to be answered with sincerity.”
The door slammed, and Lauren walked away.
Julian sat in silence. He frowned slightly and looked down at the messages on his phone.
[Where are you? I’ll come pick you up.]
Three hours had passed, and Luna still hadn’t replied.
He knew he cared about her. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have hidden his marriage from her. He hadn’t wanted Luna to be his mistress.
He wanted a real relationship with her, the kind of relationship a boyfriend and girlfriend were supposed to have.
The three years in Baycrest had taken up only a small part of his life, but they had made him want to spend the rest of it with her.
Sometimes he wondered what might have happened if he’d met Luna earlier.
Maybe he could have gone all in for her. He might have given her all the love she wanted and made her Mrs. Ashford.
But now…
He rubbed the bridge of his nose. Just as he reached for his phone to call Luna,
