He Signed Our Divorce Without Reading Chapter 06
Author: Jasmine Flower
“Grant, don’t be angry,” Vanessa said, stepping closer and resting a hand on his arm. “Evelyn is only jealous because she cares about you.”
Then she looked at me.
“My necklace clasp broke. Grant was only helping me fasten it. We’re meeting investors tonight, and I couldn’t show up looking careless.”
Her voice softened, as if she were speaking to an unreasonable child.
“Please don’t misunderstand, Evelyn. We were working. That’s all.”
She had crossed the line with my husband.
Now she was teaching me how I should react to it.
I remained silent.
Grant took my silence as guilt.
“This company has rules,” he said. “You entered the CEO’s office without permission. Your bonus for this month is canceled, and your pay will be cut in half.”
The same man who ignored every boundary Vanessa crossed was suddenly very concerned about rules.
Rachel spoke without thinking.
“Mr. Whitmore, but Evelyn already—”
Grant silenced her with one cold look.
“I don’t want excuses. Do as I said.”
Rachel closed her mouth and left.
I turned toward the door.
“Stop.”
Grant’s anger had already faded.
My obedience pleased him.
“Evelyn, I’m not targeting you. Rules have to be enforced. Otherwise, no one will respect them.”
Vanessa immediately stepped in.
“Next time something happens, you can ask me first. If Grant is busy, I can arrange a time for you.”
My husband’s assistant was offering to schedule time for me to speak to my own husband.
Grant nodded approvingly.
“Vanessa always puts the company first. You should learn from her instead of bringing your personal feelings into work.”
Learn what?
How to steal another woman’s project and make her clean up the mistakes?
How to enter another woman’s home, take over her husband, and still act innocent?
I gave a short laugh.
Grant misunderstood that too.
He thought I had finally accepted the lesson.
He stepped closer and ran his hand over my hair, the way he used to when we first fell in love.
But there was no love in his eyes now.
Only the approval someone gave a pet that had finally learned to obey.
“You have been behaving much better lately,” he said. “So I’ve decided to reward you.”
“Next month, I’ll move you back into management and give you a twenty-percent raise.”
“Once Harbor Point is stable, we’ll finally take that honeymoon in Europe. Private jet, beachfront hotel—whatever you want.”
We had been married for three years.
This was the first time he had ever offered me a honeymoon.
He hadn’t offered it because he loved me.
He was rewarding me for becoming easier to control.
“Satisfied?” he asked.
His tone made it sound as if every insult I had endured had been leading to this generous prize.
I pushed his hand away.
I opened my document folder and placed two sets of papers on his desk.
The first was my resignation, officially accepted by the board.
The second was the divorce agreement Grant had signed himself, already filed with the court by my attorney.
The smile vanished from his face.
“What is this?”
