He Lost His Alpha Status After Turning Me Down Chapter 05
I carried Ravik to the emergency room. The blood from the back of her skull soaked through myÂ
clothes.Â
I pressed the gauze down with everything I had,Â
my fingertips turning white from the pressure. “Mom, stay with me. They’re going to help you.Â
Just hold on.”Â
Her eyelids fluttered. She tried to speak, but allÂ
that came out was a faint, shapeless sound.Â
I leaned down and pressed my ear to her lips.Â
She whispered: “Altalune… don’t be afraid.”Â
My tears fell all at once.Â
When the red light above the operating room doorÂ
switched on, I slid down the wall until I was sitting on the floor. My legs couldn’t hold me anymore.Â
Geirolf’s voice pushed through our mind link.Â
“Your father is Stormclaw Pack’s Alpha? WhyÂ
didn’t you ever tell me?”Â
“What was that supposed to mean, what you said?Â
About Stormclaw Pack ending all cooperationÂ
with Ravenhowl?”Â
“Altalune, calm down. What happened with RavikÂ
was an accident. I shouldn’t have pushed her, IÂ
know that. But you already slapped me. WhatÂ
more do you want?”Â
“Ulva’s depression is flaring up. She’s in the ER too.Â
Can’t you show a little compassion?”Â
I laughed out loud. I laughed until tears streamedÂ
down my face.Â
My wolf’s voice was acid. “Compassion? You’veÂ
shown him compassion for five years! HowÂ
absurd. You made excuses for his busy schedule.Â
You tolerated his obsessive attention to thatÂ
Omega. And now our mother’s life means less toÂ
him than Ulva’s feelings!”Â
I told my wolf: “I know. It’s beyond absurd.”Â
The ER doors swung open. A healer stepped out.Â
“Altalune, the patient has a skull fracture at theÂ
back of her head and a subdural hematoma. SheÂ
needs surgery immediately.”Â
My brain went white with static. I clutched theÂ
fabric of my own shirt just to keep my hands fromÂ
shaking apart.Â
“But there’s a problem.” The healer hesitated. “Her blood type is rare. Silver wolf. Our blood bank doesn’t have enough, and we’ve contacted other packs for support, but that’s going to take time.”Â
I grabbed his arm. “Take mine. I’m silver wolf too.”Â
He shook his head. “You’re direct relatives. Transfusion isn’t possible.”Â
“Then get my father!”Â
My father agreed immediately and began the journey to Ravenhowl Pack, but even at top speed, he was four hours away.Â
Four hours.Â
My mother might not last four hours.Â
I crouched in the corridor, head in my hands.Â
Then a thought hit me like lightning.Â
Geirolf.Â
He was silver wolf too.Â
I’d joked about it once, that even our blood typesÂ
matched, that we were destined to be mates.Â
My hands were shaking as I reached out throughÂ
the mind link. If he would save my mother, I wouldÂ
give him anything. Everything.Â
He blocked the link.Â
I sent a text instead.Â
My mom needs a blood transfusion for surgery. Your blood type matches hers. Can you please.Â
help me with this? We can sit down and talkÂ
through everything between us afterward.Â
One minute later, his voice came through the mindÂ
link. He sounded exhausted.Â
“Altalune, I’m with Ulva. She slit her wrists. There’sÂ
blood everywhere. She’s in emergency surgery too.Â
The hospital’s entire supply of silver wolf bloodÂ
was already sent to her.”Â
My mind went blank.Â
“What did you just say?”Â
“Ulva needed a transfusion, and the bloodÂ
shipments from other packs haven’t arrived yet.Â
She couldn’t wait…”Â
“What about my mom?” I screamed it. “Geirolf, myÂ
mom can’t wait either! She has a fractured skull, aÂ
subdural hematoma! She is dying!”Â
Silence on the other end. A few seconds thatÂ
stretched into an eternity.Â
Then he said:Â
“Ulva slit her wrists because of you. She felt soÂ
guilty about your mom that she wanted to die.”Â
“Your mom… you’re there, aren’t you? You’re aÂ
healer. Figure something out.”Â
“Geirolf…”Â
“Ulva’s awake. I have to go.”Â
The link went dead.Â
I stood in the corridor, every muscle locked, everyÂ
nerve frozen.Â
Like someone had poured a bucket of ice waterÂ
over me from head to toe.Â
He chose Ulva.Â
Again.Â
No. This time, he didn’t just choose Ulva. He choseÂ
her over my mother’s life.Â
My phone buzzed.Â
It was a healer from another pack, someone I’d worked with during an exchange program. I’dÂ
treated dozens of their pack members during myÂ
time there. Now they were repaying the debt,Â
rushing the blood supply faster than anyone expected.Â
When I heard the news, I finally broke down crying.Â
“Altalune, the blood shipment is en route. Twenty minutes to the hospital!”Â
I shot to my feet.Â
Twenty minutes.Â
My mom could survive twenty minutes.Â
The surgery lasted six hours.
