He Lost His Alpha Status After Turning Me Down Chapter 01

On the day of my Luna ceremony, Ulva tried to kill herself. Again.

My Alpha set down his glass and walked away.

I glanced at the faces around us, friends, pack members, all watching, and grabbed his wrist before he could take another step. I kept my voice low. “Today is my Luna ceremony. The pack is here to witness our vows. If you walk out now, how am I supposed to lead these people?”

Geirolf pulled free of my grip, his brow furrowed deep. “Ulva just lost both her parents. She’s unstable. She’s an Omega, and I’m her Alpha. It’s my duty to protect her. You’re about to become Luna. You should understand what it means to put the pack first instead of being so selfish.”

Something tightened in my chest until I could barely breathe. I couldn’t stop the bitter laugh that slipped out. “Do you actually care about every Omega, or just this one?”

His stride faltered for half a second. He didn’t turn around.

I clenched my fists so hard my nails bit into my palms and shouted at his retreating back.

“Geirolf, if you walk out that door, don’t you ever come back!”

He stopped. Slowly, he turned to face me, his gaze heavy and dark.

“You’re carrying our pup. Watch your emotions. Stop making a scene.”

Then he left without looking back.

Thirty minutes later, Ulva updated her Instagram:

The one who always gets there before death is my Alpha. For the people who love me, I’m going to keep living!

In the photo, Geirolf’s hand, still wearing his oath ring, was laced tightly through hers, fingers intertwined.

The pack members still lingering at the ceremony exchanged uneasy glances. The silence was suffocating.

My mother, Ravik, went white with fury. She hurled her bouquet to the ground. “He never had an ounce of respect for his own Luna, and you insisted on marrying him. This is a direct insult to Stormclaw Pack!”

An elder from Ravenhowl Pack stepped forward quickly, hands raised in a placating gesture. “Altalune, our Alpha simply has a very strong sense of responsibility. This particular Omega’s situation may be somewhat unusual. Perhaps you could show a bit of understanding.”

Ravik cut him off before he could finish.

“An Alpha with a strong sense of responsibility abandons his Luna at her own ceremony?”

“Does Ravenhowl Pack not have a single Beta, not one healer, not one elder who could handle this? It had to be the Alpha himself, personally rushing off to tend to one Omega? He doesn’t give a damn about my daughter!”

His pheromones flooded the space, sharp and aggressive, and the entire ceremony hall went taut with tension, like a room full of drawn bowstrings.

I drew a deep breath and placed my hand on Ravik’s back. “Mom. Let’s cancel the ceremony.”

Every pair of eyes in the room turned to me. The pity in them burned.

I was used to it by now.

Last time, on my birthday, I’d sat alone in a restaurant for four hours. All I got was Geirolf’s anxious voice through our mind link:

“There’s an Omega in the pack who slit her wrists. I have to go check on her. As soon as she’s stable, I’ll come straight to dinner, I promise.”

As a pack healer myself, I understood his concern for an Omega in crisis. So I ate the cake alone.

But when I arrived at the pack hospital the next morning, I discovered the Omega who had supposedly needed such urgent attention was Ulva. She’d barely scratched her arm, a nick that wouldn’t need a single stitch, but she’d screamed for help so hysterically that everyone assumed she’d tried to end her life.

There in the hospital room, Geirolf stood at her bedside, carefully peeling an apple for her. When he saw me, he sliced off a piece and held it out like it was the most natural thing in the world.

“Ulva’s been dealing with depression,” he explained. “She cried all night. I didn’t feel right leaving her alone. Don’t overthink this.”

I took the apple slice from his hand and bit into it.

Sour. Bitter. Just like everything I was feeling.

The Luna ceremony ended without a Luna.

I went back to the house I shared with Geirolf.

The moment the door clicked shut behind me, every ounce of strength drained from my body.

I braced a hand against the wall just to stay upright.

A sharp cramp twisted through my abdomen.

My phone buzzed in my pocket.

It was Ulva. She’d sent a flood of photos. In every single one, Geirolf was at her side, caring for her with a tenderness in his eyes so radiant it practically glowed.

Then a text from Geirolf. His tone was ice cold. Not a shred of apology.

Ulva’s in critical condition. I’m not coming home. Get some rest.

I stared at the screen.

My wolf spoke first. “They seem to have forgotten that you were the one who saved Ulva from that car accident.”

I answered her quietly. “I never imagined that Geirolf, who swore to be my mate, would betray our vows like this.”

It was time to break the mate bond.
