He Let Her Move Into His Dorm, I Moved Out of the Country Chapter 07

Adrian forced himself to remain calm, ignored the murmurs, and hurried back to his office. 

Inside, investigators from the university’s Office of Faculty Conduct dropped the materials they had gathered, the notes from their interviews, and the 

financial records in front of him. 

“Professor Grant, please explain your relationship with your student, Mia Carter.” 

Adrian opened his mouth. He wanted to say that 

he and Mia had a perfectly proper 

professor–student relationship. He wanted to say that he had a fiancée he loved deeply. 

But when he looked at the report and the financial 

records the investigators had brought out, he 

could not say a single word. 

Because no perfectly proper professor–student 

relationship would make everyone around them. 

think the professor and student were a couple. 

And no professor and student would open a joint 

bank account together. 

As for the fiancée he supposedly loved, he had 

never mentioned Lauren to anyone at work. 

No one knew about her. No one would believe that 

he and Lauren were really together. 

The conduct officer looked at his silence and took 

it as guilt. 

“Professor Grant, as a professor, you’re expected 

to uphold professional standards. You should 

know better than anyone what the consequences 

are for having an inappropriate relationship with a 

student.” 

Adrian nodded. “…Yes.” 

He knew better than anyone what the 

consequences were for an inappropriate 

relationship between a professor and a student. 

He had simply always believed that what he had 

with Mia was nothing more than a pure 

professor–student relationship, with nothing 

shameful about it. 

He looked after Mia only because, in her, he saw 

the shadow of Lauren when she was young. 

He thought about how hard Lauren’s life had been 

back then, and how he had also been too young at 

the time to give Lauren a good life or help her 

much. 

So now that he had the ability, he helped Mia 

without holding anything back. 

Again and again, when Mia got sick, he took her to 

a doctor. He lowered his standards to take her on 

as his student. He let Mia move into his faculty 

apartment and redecorate it however she wanted. 

He brought Mia to his home. 

He had been busy trying to make it up to the 

young Lauren in his memories, the girl who had 

suffered so much back then. 

And because of that, again and again, he had ignored the Lauren standing in front of him now. 

And after disappointment piled up again and again, Lauren had completely given up on him. 

In the end, the university’s investigation did not rely entirely on the rumors that had spread 

everywhere. 

After round after round of evidence gathering, there was enough proof to show that Adrian and 

Mia had not had an inappropriate 

professor–student relationship. 

But the damage caused by the situation was undeniable, and so was the fact that Adrian had 

abused his position to favor Mia. 

In the final decision, Adrian was not fired. 

However, he lost his professorship, and every 

project under his name was suspended. His 

research funding and related benefits were also 

revoked. 

Adrian became a laughingstock. 

Not only among students and colleagues, but also 

among relatives and friends. 

Because a student had posted the story on the 

university subreddit, people online mocked Adrian as well. Even though they had not figured out his 

identity, that did not stop them from laughing at 

him. 

They mocked Adrian for being so blind and foolish 

that he could not even tell where the line was 

between his fiancée and his student. In the end, he 

lost both his fiancée and his job. 

Adrian heard those comments every day, but he 

never argued back. 

Because everything they said was true. 

But Mia could not bear it, and she was even less 

willing to accept it. 

She came to Adrian and begged him to help her, 

hoping he would give her one more chance. 

“Professor Grant, please help me again, okay?” 

“As long as you help me again, I’ll give you 

anything you want. I can give you myself.” 

Adrian looked coldly at the red–eyed woman in 

front of him. He wished he could gouge out the 

eyes of his past self, the man who had once pitied 

her and taken care of her. 

How blind had he been to think that this woman, 

who chased status and profit, who would stop at 

nothing to get what she wanted and was willing to 

debase herself, was anything like the Lauren from 

his past? 

“I can’t help you,” he said coldly. 

“And I have nothing to do with you anymore.” 

“Don’t come looking for me again.” 

Mia dropped to her knees with a thud and clung to 

Adrian’s leg. 

“I only ended up like this because of you! You can’t 

just abandon me!” 

Adrian kicked her away and turned to leave. 

But Adrian was Mia’s last hope. How could Mia 

possibly give up? 

When she realized she could no longer win his sympathy by playing on his emotions, Mia decided to go all the way. She took flimsy, baseless claims and started telling everyone that she and Adrian had been together for a long time. 

A professor being involved with his student set off a firestorm online. 

What had originally been limited to the university spread across the entire internet. 

Although the investigation eventually cleared 

things up, Mia was arrested for spreading false 

rumors. 

But because of the incident, Adrian was demoted 

again. 

Before, he had at least still been a lecturer. Now he was nothing more than contract support staff. 

Countless times, Adrian wanted to leave. But every time the thought surfaced, he would think, What if Lauren comes back? 

If he stayed in this city and stayed at his old 

workplace, maybe when Lauren returned, he would 

still have a chance to run into her again. 

And so, Adrian kept waiting. 

Year after year passed. Just when Adrian no 

longer held any hope, he finally saw that familiar 

figure at an industry conference. 

Five years had passed, yet that familiar face 

showed no trace of age. 

Instead, compared with when she had been with 

him, she now seemed to shine even brighter.
