He Kept Me Hidden Then Pushed Me To Date Others Chapter 06

Nathan Cole stepped in front of me, eyeing Ethan with open distrust.

“Mr. Holloway, I’ve seen you at research conferences before. I know you’re Claire’s colleague. If you’re here for the wedding, you’re welcome. If not, I’ll have to ask you to leave.”

One sentence, and he’d put Ethan in his place.

Just a colleague.

Ethan’s face went even paler. He couldn’t argue. There were family, friends, even a few coworkers in the crowd. Most had heard how Ethan had disowned me at the lab. Seeing him here shocked

them.

Under all those eyes, he froze. Torn. He didn’t move closer.

I exchanged vows with Nathan.

Just before the rings, Ethan lunged forward, grabbed the officiant’s mic, his

eyes

red.

“Claire, I was wrong.”

“I can’t stand the thought of you with someone else. I finally see clearly-Gemma was just an old habit, an excuse I used to avoid going public.”

“I thought I still wanted her, but these five years… my heart was already yours. I don’t care if the whole world knows I love you. Just give me one chance to win you back.”

He reached for my hand, eyes full of feeling.

Someone in the crowd recorded the whole thing. It spread fast.

[Wait-Ethan and Claire were actually together?]

[He crashed her wedding? Didn’t he just confess to Gemma? So Claire was the real deal?]

[Oh God. All the stuff we said about her…]

[We’re screwed. Our projects. He’s going to retaliate, isn’t he?]

Ethan didn’t see the messages. He kept his eyes locked on me, silently begging to see a crack in my

resolve. A sign I’d come back to him.

I pulled my hand away and stepped back.

All the blood drained from his face.

“Forget it. I don’t need a public relationship anymore.”

I put distance between us. “Forget it.”

He stared at the growing gap, desperate. “Claire, but you’ve known him less than two weeks! Even if it’s not me, how can you just marry someone that fast?”

Nathan stepped forward, a faint sneer on his lips. “Two weeks? I’ve known Claire a lot longer than you have. Actually, you could say we’re… childhood friends.”
