He Doesn’t Deserve the Perfect Me Chapter 09

I left and went home.

For the next two days, Soren appeared at the gates of my villa every morning.

On the third morning, Dad had had enough. He walked outside with a gun. “Soren, you know exactly what position your father is in. If you don’t want the Collier organization wiped out, leave now.”

Soren looked at my father, then dropped to his knees. “Please forgive me. Please ask Vivian to forgive me. Could you spare my father? He’s already…”

“No. Unless you can bring my wife back to life.”

Soren remained on his knees, shaking violently as tears streamed down his face.

He must have been drowning in regret.

But time couldn’t be undone, and I would never wait for him again.

After that day, I never saw Soren again.

Once I knew the truth, something inside me suddenly let go.

My mood lifted and my energy returned. I officially took control of all my father’s Las Vegas operations.

Six months later, Dad brought me news of Soren. The Collier organization had collapsed.

While Soren’s father was under siege from my father’s New York allies, one of his own capos turned informant. Federal agents moved in and dismantled the Collier organization.

“Soren tried to save what was left by agreeing to marry the daughter of a Sicilian crime boss. It wasn’t enough. And Daisy…” Dad lit a cigar, his eyes cold. “She’s dead.”

I raised an eyebrow. “How did she die?”

“His fiancée killed her. Daisy kept showing up to cry to Soren about the vows they’d made before the priest. His fiancée pulled out a gun and riddled her with bullets.”

I nodded. Not a ripple of emotion stirred inside me.

Because once, I’d felt the same way.

“Sweetheart, now that you’ve taken over my business, it’s time I found you a fiancé who matches your status.”

I smiled and shook my head. “Dad, I don’t need a fiancé or any man to keep the Wellman family thriving.”

At the very least, I would never betray myself for love again.

I wasn’t ready to open myself up to love again so soon.

I trusted that, when the time was right, God would bring me a man whose loyalty was as absolute as mine.
