He Cheated On Me Thinking My Wealth Was His—So I Kicked Him Out of the Billionaire Game Chapter 02
“Elise, you want to stay and watch?”
“Might learn something.”
“Maybe then Julian wouldn’t be so bored.”
My stomach turned.
Cora finally ripped off her good-girl mask. Her voice got lighter with every word.
“You taught me to read, pick out gowns, how to work a room.”
“But you never learned how to make a man fall for you. Want me to show you?”
Julian frowned.
“Cora.”
Like he was scolding her for going too far.
But his hand reached out and pulled her back to his side. Natural. Protective.
Something clicked in my head. Seven years ago.
Julian pitched me for his first round of funding.
His suit was washed-out gray. His palms were sweating.
No one wanted to touch his project.
I gave him his first check. Introduced him to everyone who mattered.
Bit by bit, I pushed him to where he sits now.
People call him Mr. Chase. Say he’s young and sharp.
He’s heard it so long, he probably forgot.
Who put him in that chair.
Julian saw I wasn’t answering. Impatience crept into his voice.
“Elise, don’t blow this up.”
“You’re a Whitmore. You know how to keep things proper.”
“I’ll give you and the kid the respect you deserve.”
“And I’ll take care of Cora too.”
“You’re both important to me.”
Both important.
I held his gaze for a few seconds. Then I laughed.
“Julian.”
“You married me and actually thought that made you part of the club?”
His face went dark.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
I didn’t answer. Just slipped the wedding band off my finger.
The ring he put on my hand when he proposed.
He said he’d love me for the rest of his life.
Now I knew better. So gross.
I dropped it in the trash.
Cora’s eyes followed it. A flicker of greed flashed in her eyes.
I saw it. Smiled.
“You want it? Go ahead.”
“You’ve always loved my leftovers, haven’t you?”
Cora’s face flushed red.
Julian finally stood up.
“Elise, that’s enough.”
“Cora’s already been through enough.”
I laughed again.
“Fine.”
“If she’s got so much talent, let’s give everyone a show.”
I pulled out my phone. Hit record.
Pointed the camera at Cora.
“Go on. Start.”
“Show everyone how you sleep with your boss while he pays you with my money.”
“Let me see all those fresh tricks.”
All the color drained from Cora’s face.
She shrank behind Julian.
“Julian, please…”
Julian’s expression turned cold.
He put his hand in front of the lens. His voice was low, furious.
“Elise, that’s crossing a line.”
“You’re pregnant. Your emotions are all over the place. I get it.”
“But you don’t get to destroy a young girl just because you’re upset.”
“Cora made a mistake.”
“But she clawed her way out of nowhere. It wasn’t easy.”
“One word from you and she loses her job, her reputation, everything she fought for.”
“You really think that’s fair?”
I stared at him. Almost laughed out loud.
Julian thought he was getting through to me. His face softened.
“Elise, put the phone down.”
“You’re my wife. I’ll take care of you.”
