He Chased His First Love Through the Snow-and Lost Me Chapter 11
Despite my refusal, I still chose to attend the grand Vance corporate gala. Not for romance, but because I had officially taken over my family’sÂ
restored enterprise, and I required high–society networks and commercial resources.Â
The moment I stepped into the ballroom, I saw Garett surrounded by a sea of elite executives. He was answering their questions with coldÂ
detachment, his eyes frantically scanning the crowd. The second his gaze locked onto me, his face lit up with blinding joy.Â
He abandoned the circle of billionaires and hurried over to my side. “Vivian… I knew you would come.”Â
He reached out, trying to gently take my fingers. “In a few minutes, I am going to step onto that podium and announce to the entire world that you are the only woman I will ever marry.”Â
Years ago, I would have bartered my soul for that public acknowledgment. Now, it felt like cheap.Â
static. I violently smacked his hand away. “StopÂ
making a spectacle of yourself. I didn’t getÂ
dressed up for you.”Â
“Don’t speak in anger, Vivian. If you didn’t come forÂ
me, who could you possibly be looking for?”Â
Right on cue, a high–profile venture capitalist strolled over with a champagne flute. “Mr. Vance, who is this gorgeous lady beside you?”Â
A proud, confident smirk returned to Garett’s lips. “This is my fiancée.”Â
My brow furrowed. “I am not.”Â
Garett let out a helpless, indulgent sigh to the executive. “We’re having a tiny domestic lovers‘Â
spat right now.”Â
The businessman let out an amused chuckle. “To think a woman actually has the courage to throw a tantrum at the great Garett Vance! You better do a proper job of making it up to her, Mr. Vance.”Â
The moment the executive stepped away, my expression turned entirely lethal. “Is this amusingÂ
to you, Garett? We are completely through.”Â
His fingers clamped tightly around my wrist, hisÂ
voice filled with stubborn obsession. “It isÂ
immensely amusing! Now that you’ve steppedÂ
back into my circle, I have no intention of everÂ
letting you go.”Â
He refused to leave my side, trailing behind me likeÂ
an overbearing shadow, completely blocking me from establishing any meaningful commercialÂ
connections. It wasn’t until his head assistant frantically pulled him away for an emergency executive briefing that I finally caught my breath.Â
But the moment I turned around, I caught Natasha staring at me from a dark corner of the ballroom.Â
As Garett’s usual corporate date, her presence wasn’t surprising. She walked over, the sweet innocence entirely drained from her features, leaving nothing but an ugly, naked malice.Â
“I never expected him to actually bring a shadow like you to a high–society function,” she hissed.Â
“He didn’t bring me. I brought myself,” I repliedÂ
flatlyÂ
Natasha let out a sharp scoff, refusing to believe a word. “Based on what?”Â
“What makes you so special, Vivian?! Why does everyone eventually fall at your feet?! Why do you master everything effortlessly, while I am left in the dark?! Why did our mother choose to protect you and cast me aside?!”Â
“But it doesn’t matter. Garett belongs to me, andÂ
me alone.”Â
I looked at her manic, unhinged expression with pure pity. “You’re entirely psychotic. Are you truly that confident? Is that why you fabricated that pathetic lie about saving him from theÂ
riverbanks?”Â
Natasha visibly recoiled, panic flashing through her eyes before she forced her composure back.Â
I casually swirled the dark red wine in my crystalÂ
glass. “Tell me, Natasha. What do you thinkÂ
Garett’s reaction will be when I inform him thatÂ
you didn’t just lie about the rescue–but that backÂ
then, you actually complained that he was a ‘filthyÂ
street rat‘ and actively blocked our parents from saving his life?”
