Grave of the Mafia’s Love Chapter 10
Julian was diagnosed with depression and
admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
Although his assistant tried to keep the news
under wraps, word that the CEO of Vance Capital
had lost his mind spread within less than half a
day.
The first message Julian saw when he woke up
was from Mia Thornton.
Mia was abroad at the time, picking out a wedding
dress. He had occasionally replied to her
messages before.
Later, Mia sensed that something was wrong, so
she stopped contacting him.
Now, she had sent a text message breaking off
the engagement.
Vance and Thornton were close. Since their
engagement, the two families‘ businesses had
supported one another.
Canceling the wedding would have a negative.
impact on the stock prices of both companies.
This was especially true for Julian, who was already mired in negative publicity at the time.
But he still replied with an “OK.”
After being released from the hospital, Julian threw himself wholeheartedly into his business, attempting to turn things around through several high–risk international arms deals.
Before he left, he came to see me one last time.
He stood there for a long time before asking:
“Sylvia Reed, do you think I’ll succeed?”
I was barely conscious at the time; I couldn’t even stay afloat.
I could only collapse beside the gravestone and wave weakly at him.
Go, Julian. It’s time to go. Good luck.
Due to weather conditions, Julian’s flight was
delayed.
While in transit, he received word that his partner
had canceled the deal.
No matter how he explained it, they remained
unmoved.
On the return flight, the plane encountered severe
turbulence.
The passengers screamed and cried, but Julian
didn’t.
He was unusually calm, as if waiting for a long–overdue reward.
“Ending it this way… doesn’t seem so bad after all.”
“Sylvia Reed, I’m finally going to meet you”
But Julian was lucky–he survived.
Upon his return, he discovered that Vance Capital’s assets had shrunk significantly, the failure of two deals had severely impacted the firm’s cash flow. Later, details of Julian’s high
school days were leaked.
Suddenly, major media outlets began reporting that the CEO of Vance Capital was the son of a
mistress.
Julian locked himself in the house and spent his
time smoking and drinking.
He had gone to the edge of the forty–second–floor balcony on numerous occasions. His mental state
had deteriorated, and he was frequently
experiencing hallucinations.
When major media outlets came to interview him,
he turned them all away.
His reputation hit rock bottom.
One afternoon, Julian decided to donate all of his
personal assets to charities supporting leukemia
and other serious illnesses.
As he left the building that symbolized power, he was penniless, just as he had been when he founded this empire. “Sylvia Reed, if there is an afterlife, I will spend the rest of my days atoning
for my sins.”
I didn’t look back.
I turned and walked toward a new world,
beginning my new life.
