From NYU Labs to Street Flyers The Price of Loving a Don Chapter 08

The words had barely left my mouth when, before Elena could even respond, her child suddenly snatched a heavy flower vase from a nearby shelf and hurled it straight at my head with full force.

“Who do you think you are, telling my mom to leave? You evil witch! The other night Dad got completely drunk, and I heard him muttering your name over and over again! It’s you! You’re the one trying to steal my dad away!”

“Mom, didn’t we agree we were going to teach her a lesson? Go get her!”

I knew Elena’s child was raised to be insufferable, but I never imagined he could be this violently malicious.

Fortunately, my reflexes kicked in and I dodged just in time; otherwise, I would have been left bleeding out on the floor today.

Elena’s eyes darkened with malice. She raised her hand, aiming a vicious slap straight at my face, but I

intercepted her, clamping my hand tightly around her wrist.

Before I could say a single word, the shop door was suddenly violently thrown open. Luca and Matteo rushed

inside simultaneously.

Taking in the chaotic scene, both of their expressions shifted drastically.

Matteo lunged forward, pulling me securely into his chest as he checked me over frantically for any signs of

injury. Luca, on the other hand, delivered a brutal slap across Elena’s face.

A towering, uncontainable fury burned across his features as he spoke through ground teeth.

“Elena, you have some nerve! I couldn’t fathom for the life of me why the card I gave Serena-which had three

million dollars on it-left her living in absolute squalor!”

“It was you? It was actually you?! Why the hell did you extort that money from her?! You already stripped her

of absolutely everything, what more do you want?!”

Faced with Luca’s roaring interrogation, Elena cradled her stinging cheek, tears streaming down her face in

torrents.

“I am your legal wife! That money counts as our marital property, so why shouldn’t I take it back?!”

“Luca, look at how you treat me! We’ve been married for eight years, and I built a family with you, but what about you? You claim to love me, but the truth is you never stopped pining for Serena!”

“You’re drowning in regret over what happened back then, aren’t you? Regretting how you treated her just for my sake. Too bad for you, there’s no turning back time. You and her are completely finished in this lifetime!”

The better you know someone, the easier it is to drive the knife into their softest spots.

Elena’s words caused a wave of acute agony to ripple across Luca’s face.

Seeing the situation spiral completely out of control, Matteo kept me safely shielded in his arms and spoke

in an icy tone.

“Take your marital disputes somewhere else. This is your private family drama.”

“If you continue to destroy our property and disrupt our business, I will call the police immediately!”

Luca took a sharp, ragged breath, his eyes instinctively darting to me, only to find that I wouldn’t even grant

him a fleeting glance.

The rims of his eyes flushed blood-red. Reaching out, he aggressively grabbed Elena by the hair, dragging her

toward the exit of the shop.

“I must have been completely blind to ever look at a viper like you! Divorce. We are heading straight to the

courthouse right now!”

“Don’t you love bragging about how bearing my child makes you untouchable? Fine. Pack your bags and take your son with you. I don’t want a single thing to do with either of you ever again.”

Elena stared at him in absolute shock, never anticipating that he could be this entirely cold-blooded.

The two of them continued to scream and tear at each other as they vanished down the street.

The aftermath of that day only reached my ears later through neighborhood gossip.

Word was that when Luca and Elena left, Luca was determined to drive straight to City Hall to file the divorce petition immediately. Elena refused to cooperate, lunging across the seats to wrest control of the steering

wheel.

Her desperate struggle triggered a catastrophic car accident.

All three of them-including the young child-died on impact at the scene.

When the news reached me, my mind drifted for a fleeting second.

But it was only for a single second.

The ghosts of the past had finally dissolved into the wind. With the man I loved standing right by my side, the

rest of my life was only going to get better.
