Flaunting My Ring? Too Bad Your Man Is My Husband—and I Hold the Pen to His Fortune! Chapter 03
Mirella stood up. “Fine. Let “me slap you twice, and I’ll accept.”
The head waiter gave an awkward smile. “Miss, please, she’s older. Go easy.”
“So what if she’s old?” Mirella sneered. “Her face is already ruined. No man would want her whether she fights back or not. I’m doing her a favor. She gets a diamond. I get satisfaction.”
Another waiter whispered to me, “Just let her do it, ma’am. Two slaps and it’s over. She’s the Don’s companion. That diamond is worth six figures, Miss Vescari. It’s a bargain.”
Six figures.
It would take me eight or ten years of killing myself just to save six figures.
Ten years of my life.
I held it up so it sparkled.
Then I flicked my wrist.
The diamond cut through the air, clattered onto Mirella’s tray table, and bounced onto the floor.
“I don’t want it.”
SMACK!
Her hand hit my face hard. The force whipped my head to the side.
I stumbled. My mouth filled with the taste of metal.
Mirella sneered. “You dare refuse a gift?”
SMACK!
My hand shot back. Louder. Heavier.
Mirella staggered backward and slammed into her seat. A shriek tore from her throat.
“You bitch! You hit me!”
“You’re damn right I did!”
I lunged. Someone grabbed me and pulled me back.
For the rest of the flight, the crew kept their eyes on us, nervously keeping us apart.
The moment the plane landed, Mirella jumped out of her seat, her eyes red and teary.
I watched her stride out of the arrivals hall and throw herself into a man’s arms.
Severin.
His arm went around her waist. Then he saw the mark on her face.
His usually steady voice turned sharp.
“Who did this?”
“Her! The one you gave the diamond to! The diamond only made her worse! No one has ever hit me before!”
Tears spilled down Mirella’s cheeks.
His face darkened, like a storm about to break.
The calm Don was gone. Something dangerous took his place.
“Where is she?”
Mirella pointed behind her and buried her face in his coat, sobbing.
“Right here.”
I walked through the door.
Severin went rigid.
I lifted my head, my face appearing from under the brim of my hat.
“Hello, Don?”
