Dad’s Regret After Killing Me for Ex’s Daughter Chapter 08

Dad’s Regret After Killing Me for Ex’s Daughter Chapter 08

The enforcer nodded. “Do you have any idea where your daughter is?”

“I don’t know where that little beast has gone. Scarlett disappeared weeks ago,” my father said coldly to the enforcers, his face impassive.

“We understand, Mr. Morgan, but we’ll continue searching. We do ask for your continued cooperation with our investigation,” the lead enforcer replied, his tone respectful but firm.

The truth was, no matter how extensively the pack enforcers searched, they would never find me.

I was still lying in the fire house, my body in an advanced state of decomposition. Soon, I’d be nothing but bones.

How could anyone find a person who never left?

The enforcers scoured the territory, determined to track me down. They reviewed security footage from businesses throughout the area, but all they found were glimpses of someone wearing my clothes, always with a mask and hat obscuring their face. Nothing conclusive.

Like wolves tracking a ghost, they searched for weeks. By the time Elise was released from the hospital, pale and hollow-eyed from her trauma, they still hadn’t found any trace of me.

“It’s as if she vanished into thin air,” the lead enforcer reported during another visit to our mansion.

“Hmph! A living person doesn’t just disappear!” my father snapped, pounding his fist against a table. “Those worthless friends of hers must be helping her hide. Scarlett has always been calculating. She’s out there somewhere!”

The enforcer didn’t react to my father’s outburst. Instead, his gaze drifted around the room, eventually settling on a security camera mounted in the corner of the living room.

“Mr. Morgan, would it be possible for us to review your home security footage?” he asked.

My father nodded curtly. “Of course.”

The security footage was copied and taken away for analysis, but the enforcers quickly discovered that the recordings only went back one month. Everything before that had been mysteriously deleted.

“There’s something off about this family,” one enforcer muttered to his partner as they reviewed the footage.

Even with just one month of recordings, they had plenty to examine. During this time, they shifted their strategy -if they couldn’t locate me directly, they would focus on the rogue wolves who had attacked Elise.

A person might be able to hide, but captured rogues could be made to talk.

The enforcement team returned to the abandoned building where the attack had taken place. They methodically combed through every inch, collecting hairs, fibers, and scent markers.

“The rogues claim they were hired by a young female with auburn hair,” the lead investigator said, examining a rusted cage where the attackers had planned to keep Elise. “But rogues will say anything to save their hides.”

I floated next to him, desperate to make him understand. “They’re telling the truth about being hired, but it wasn’t me!” I pleaded uselessly.

At pack headquarters, the interrogation of the captured rogues continued. Silver chains bound them to reinforced chairs as enforcers circled, looking for inconsistencies in their story.

“Describe her again,” demanded the chief enforcer, leaning close to the scarred leader. “Every detail.”

“Green eyes, like I said before,” the rogue growled. “Auburn hair, about this tall.” He indicated my height exactly. “Young, maybe twenty. Smelled like ash and death.”

“And what did she give you as payment?”

The rogue nodded toward the evidence table. “That green stone. Said it was worth more than gold to the right buyer.”

The chief enforcer picked up my emerald pendant-the one my mother had given me on my sixteenth birthday. I had kept it locked in my jewelry box, a treasured possession I never would have parted with.

“And where did you meet her?”

“Edge of the territory. Near the old hunting grounds. She knew exactly where to find us. Like she’d been watching.”

The enforcer circled the rogue slowly. “What was she wearing?”

“Dark clothes. Expensive. Had this.” He nodded to another item on the evidence table-a scrap of fabric with a designer label, one that matched several items in my wardrobe.

But even with the rogues’ testimony and my pendant as evidence, they still couldn’t conclusively prove who had hired them. The description matched me perfectly, but no one had seen the mysterious female’s face clearly.

I could only watch in frustration as the investigation continued.

Now that they had interrogated the rogues, all they needed was to find me-the person they believed had orchestrated the attack.

The enforcers worked tirelessly, gathering clues and following leads, desperate to locate me. But each attempt ended in failure.

I wanted so badly to tell them to stop searching, that they would never find me alive, but none of them could hear my ghostly voice.

“Chief,” one of the younger enforcers said, frustration evident in his voice, “how does someone function in today’s world without using a phone, not using bank cards, and avoiding all security cameras? Our only real evidence is these rogues’ testimony and the pendant. Is this Scarlett girl some kind of phantom who can appear and disappear at will?”

The chief enforcer’s brow furrowed as he studied the evidence board. Something wasn’t adding up, and I could see the doubt beginning to form in his mind.

“Good question,” he replied slowly. “Very good question indeed.”

The enforcers were experienced investigators. The situation was becoming increasingly clear to them.

There was only one real possibility: I was already dead.

Watching them come to this realization, I felt a wave of relief. Finally! Go find my body before it becomes nothing but bones and terrifies you all.

The chief enforcer brought their latest findings to my father.

“Mr. Morgan, we now suspect that Scarlett may have met with foul play. We need your full cooperation with our investigation,” he stated gravely.

My father scoffed at the suggestion. “Impossible. She was just attacking Elise. How could she be dead?”

“But before the attack on your mate, Scarlett seemed to vanish completely from the world. No purchase records, no communication traces-nothing at all. Mr. Morgan, does that seem possible to you for a living person?”

The enforcer’s face was deadly serious, but my father remained dismissive. “Of course it’s possible. I canceled all her cards, so naturally there would be no purchase records. She has plenty of friends who could give her money to live on.”

“We’ve investigated those friends too. None of them have seen Scarlett for weeks, and there are no bank transfers to her. She’s vanished like a ghost.”

Hearing this, my father laughed derisively. “Sounds like your enforcement team is simply incompetent. Can’t even find one girl.”

“Mr. Morgan, please mind your tone,” a younger enforcer snapped, stepping forward with anger in his eyes.

The chief held him back with one arm, about to speak when his phone suddenly rang.

“What? Yes, send me the video right away. I’m at the Morgan residence now.”

After ending the call, the chief’s gaze became razor-sharp, like a predatory hawk spotting prey.

“Mr. Morgan, we’ve received information that Scarlett is in this mansion right now. Has been all along.”

My father froze for two seconds. “That’s absurd. Search the house if you want. She’s not here.”

The chief didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he watched a video that had just been sent to his phone.

He turned up the volume so everyone in the room could hear it clearly.

“Tie her up!” My father’s voice rang out from the recording.

“Let her stay here and think about what she’s done!”

My father lurched to his feet, eyes wide with shock and dawning horror.

“That’s your voice, isn’t it, Mr. Morgan?” the chief asked quietly.

My father’s mind seemed to go blank. After several seconds, he staggered toward the door, heading for the fire
