Betrayal and Regret: The Donna Lost Her Child Chapter 10
“Ryan, why haven’t you come to see me? I’ve been so scared all alone… Didn’t you promise him you’d take
care of me?”
But this time, Ryan wasn’t having it.
He shoved Chloe hard to the floor.
“Get off me. Watch yourself. My wife is standing right here.”
Chloe was stunned by the shove. I looked at him with disgust.
I used to pray he’d push Chloe away for my sake.
But he never kept his distance. He always leaned right in.
Now his sudden restraint felt utterly fake.
I let out a dry laugh and held out the divorce agreement again.
“My leaving works out perfectly for you two. Sign it.”
I set the papers down and turned to go. But Ryan grabbed my arm-and Chloe crawled across the floor and
latched onto him.
“Ryan, isn’t this exactly what you wanted? Now you can take care of me without any worries.”
I shook off his hand. Ryan, rushing after me, kicked Chloe hard.
He kicked her so hard in the stomach that she bled. Her screams brought the doctors running. That’s when I found out she was pregnant.
Ryan was merciless. He gave the doctors an order.
“Get rid of it. And remove her uterus. I’ll make her pay for what she did to Grace.”
I didn’t stay to watch. I turned and walked away.
As I left the hospital, Ryan caught up. He dropped to his knees in front of me again.
“Grace, Chloe’s been dealt with. No one will ever come between us again.”
“Please, don’t divorce me. Let’s start over. Grace, I can’t lose you. I really can’t.”
I had completely run out of patience. I turned and looked at him, using the cruelest tone I could summon.
“Ryan, do you really think bringing me meals for ten days makes up for everything? You’re way too
confident.”
“Let me be clear-I don’t have a single drop of love left for you. Only hate. If you don’t want me to hate you even more, sign the papers and stop coming near me.”
“You want my forgiveness? Then go to hell.”
I said it flat and clean, then turned and left.
Hearing my words, Ryan finally accepted the truth. I didn’t love him anymore. He crumpled to his knees and stayed there until nightfall.
The next day, I got a text from Ryan.
See you at the family law firm.
I went to the law firm and finished all the paperwork.
The moment I signed my name, I was no longer Donna of the Vulture family. I was free.
Later, I found out he’d transferred every asset, every property, every policy into my name. He walked away
with nothing.
His father stripped him of his position. He was nobody now. Just an ordinary man.
I wasn’t surprised. He owed me that much.
He took me to our child’s grave.
I turned on him, my voice like ice. “Get out of here. Your child doesn’t want to see you.”
His eyes were full of desperate humility. He looked like he wanted to say something. But he swallowed it.
All he managed was:
“Grace, if I miss you… can I see you?”
“No. We are never seeing each other again.”
His head dropped. Tears streamed down his face. Finally, he turned and walked away.
I spent the whole afternoon talking to my child.
On my way home that evening, a news alert popped up on my phone.
Ryan killed in car crash off cliff this afternoon. Body recovered, dismembered on impact.
I felt nothing.
Let it be his atonement for everything he did.
