Betrayal and Regret: The Donna Lost Her Child Chapter 04

Betrayal and Regret: The Donna Lost Her Child Chapter 04

“Tell me!! Where is my child?!”

My voice turned shrill.

Ryan looked at me like I was losing my mind. He opened his mouth to answer-

“Ahhh-!”

A scream rang out from the crowd. Everyone circled around.

It was Chloe. Ryan rushed over.

I followed, confused.

Chloe had scraped her calf on something. And she’d lost something.

The entire family was fussing over her. Ryan, practically aching with sympathy, said he’d buy her a hundred

replacements.

But Chloe wouldn’t have it. Because the missing item was a ruby necklace-a gift from her dead husband.

Ryan ordered everyone in the family to start searching.

But Chloe just kept sobbing.

“The ruby necklace-only Grace saw what it looked like.”

She suddenly rushed forward and dropped to her knees in front of me.

“Grace, my leg is hurt. Please, can you help me find it? I’m begging you!”

And then she bent forward, about to throw herself at my feet-

Ryan scooped her up before she could.

He spun around and snarled at me.

“You made Chloe beg you on her knees over something this small?”

“Did you already forget the apology you just made tonight? From now on, you do whatever she wants!”

All the family members sided with Chloe, openly tearing into me.

“We’re all part of the Vulture family, and you let someone kneel before you? Is this what being Donna gives you the right to do?”

“God, how can the Donna of the Vulture family be such a vicious woman?”

I’d lost the ability to defend myself. The night had become a nightmare. All I wanted was to find my child and

get out of there.

Chloe looked at my hollowed-out face and suddenly leaned in close, her voice a taunting whisper in my ear.

“You want to know where your kid is? Then find my necklace.”

My face went white.

She had done something to my child. On purpose.

The thought of what my baby might be suffering-

Rage blinded me. I grabbed Chloe without thinking and demanded to know where my child was.

She pretended to be terrified, curling into a ball. Ryan shoved me hard to the ground and pulled her into his

arms.

The wound on my abdomen split open. My spine felt like it cracked. But that pain was nothing compared to

what was tearing me apart inside.

“You never learn, do you? Chloe was just trying to say thank you. Did you have to terrify her like that?”

“You are going to find that ruby necklace! If you don’t, you’ll stay trapped here for the rest of your life and never see your child again!”

As he turned to leave, I scrambled up and grabbed him, my eyes wild with desperate pleading.

“Ryan, Chloe hid our baby. Please-just make her tell you where he is.”

I took a shaky breath, held back my sobs, and nodded frantically.

“I’ll find her ruby necklace. I swear I will. Just please-tell me where my child is!”

I couldn’t hold back the tears anymore.

Ryan looked at me like I was insane.

“You’ve lost your mind, Grace!”

He shoved me off and walked away.

I searched the entire island all night.

Hold on, baby. Wait for me. Mommy’s coming.

I searched until dawn. I still hadn’t found Chloe’s ruby necklace.

Just as I was sinking into total despair, I saw them-a massive flock of seagulls clustered together in the distance, pecking at something.

My heart started racing. A single, horrifying thought rose in my mind.

No.

It can’t be.

Absolutely not.

My child is with Ryan. He’s not here.

Maybe it’s a seal carcass. Or something else.

Yes. That has to be it.

But when I chased the seagulls away and saw what lay beneath-

My heart died.

That tiny body. Curled up there. Lifeless.

I died there too.

At that moment, Ryan had just spent nearly a hundred million on luxury goods for Chloe-enough to finally fill the void that ruby necklace had left in her heart.

When he saw the smile on her face, he finally remembered me, still on the island, desperately searching for that necklace.

He ordered the family Consigliere to bring the baby to Grace.

The next second, he heard the Consigliere’s terrified voice.

“The boy and Donna-seagulls pecked them to death!”
