Alpha Rejected the Tomboy. Now, She’s Gone. Chapter 09

Adam pressed his hands firmly against my

shoulders, his tone filled with urgent panic.

Jamie, when did you get close to Eric? Why was

he walking you home? What exactly are you two?”

We’re just friends. We met at the library before

the SATS. He tutored me through plenty of hard

topics.”

Adam stared at me for a long while, scrutinizing

my expression to confirm I was telling the truth.

Then he suddenly reached out and took my hand,

his voice dropping to a low, trembling murmur.

I’m sorry, Jamie.”

I never should’ve treated you like that. I never

should’ve called you disgusting, gotten with

Courtney, or pushed you away over and over

again.”

I like you. I’ve always liked you. But I was scared-

I was terrified we’d break up if we got together,

that I’d lose you forever.”

I thought if we stayed lifelong best friends, we’d

never drift apart, never lose each other.”

But I’d never guessed it was this.

I’d imagined countless reasons for his constant

rejection over the years. I’d even thought he simply

didn’t have feelings for me.

It’s too late for all of this, Adam. The pain you left

behind can never be erased.”

I don’t like you anymore. Not one bit.”

I pulled my hand free from his grasp and fumbled

my house keys out of my bag.

Adam stepped close behind me and wrapped his

arms tightly around my waist, trapping me in a

desperate hug.

I messed up, Jamie. I’m an idiot, I’m the worst.

Please forgive me.”

“We don’t have to be brothers anymore. Let’s be

together. I’ll move to your city, stay by your side

forever”

Hot tears fell onto the nape of my neck.

It was the first time I’d ever seen Adam break

down like this, raw and unraveled, heartbreakingly

vulnerable.

But I was no longer the old Jamie.

The girl who once abandoned everything, lowered

every boundary, and sacrificed endlessly just for

him was gone.

I wriggled out of his arms and unlocked the front

door.

You’re far too late, Adam.”

I’m never going back, I’ll never give you another

chance. Let’s just end this peacefully.”

The door slammed shut behind me.

With that sound, my entire youthful crush finally

drew to a close.

Adam kept pounding frantically on the door,

shouting my name at the top of his broken voice.

I slipped on my headphones and blocked out

every desperate sound from outside.

Before I knew it, college decision day arrived.

Eric and I both committed to New York University, attending the same campus with different majors, just as we’d promised.

Adam got into an average state university in the

city. Shockingly, Courtney enrolled at the same

school just to stay close to him.

College life sped by in the blink of an eye.

I buried myself in my studies, competing for

scholarships and academic awards, joining all

kinds of campus activities, and running for

student leadership positions.

My days were full, steady, and deeply fulfilling.

Adam visited my campus multiple times, bringing

flowers, custom cakes, and all sorts of gifts.

I turned every gesture down, yet he kept coming

back relentlessly.

That all stopped during my sophomore year, when

Eric and I officially became a pair.

Our relationship announcement post blew up

instantly, flooded with nothing but warm wishes.

Even the former pack members who’d once bullied

me left kind comments, wishing me happiness.

Eric reread our announcement over and over

again, grinning widely as he pulled me into his

arms.

I teased him for being silly.

He lifted an eyebrow, smiling brightly, I finally got my crush. I deserve to be happy about it.”

After we got together, Eric told me everything. about his longhidden feelings.

I finally learned the truththroughout my ten years of unrequited love for Adam, someone else had

quietly loved me for seven whole years.

Eric had liked me since the first year of junior high. He’d known I was head over heels for Adam, so

he’d never confessed.

After he fell out with Adam and left their friend

group, he started planning every small encounter.

He timed his morning walks perfectly just to cross

paths with me, deliberately arranging every

accidental meeting over the years.

Even our library study sessions were never

coincidences.

He’d originally planned to study at his own school,

but switched his plans the second he learned I

was heading to the town library.

He’d even chosen the seat right next to me on

purpose every single time.

So many tiny, unnoticed gestures I’d never once

paid attention to.

As I listened to every detail, my eyes filled with

warm, grateful tears.

No one understood the bitterness of a onesided

crush better than me.

Finally, both of us had walked out of our long

suffering and found our happy ending.

Adam’s call came last, long after our

announcement.

His voice cracked and trembled over the line.

Jamie, is it true? Are you really with Eric?”

I answered calmly, without a single trace of

hesitation, It’s true.”

Is there really no chance left for me at all?”

He must have already known the answer, yet he needed to hear it directly from me.

Stop clinging to the past, Adam. It’s time for you

to move on and live your own life.”

That was the last call I ever took from him.

Life stretches long ahead. We all have to keep

moving forward.
