Alpha Rejected the Tomboy. Now, She’s Gone. Chapter 03
Word of my bet with Courtney spread through the entire pack overnight.
When I stepped into school the next day, mocking taunts came from every pack member around me.
Courtney leaned against my locker, arms folded over her chest, her chin tilted high with arrogance.
“Jamie, out of respect for Adam, I’ll give you one last chance. Call off the bet, apologize to me, and we’ll drop this whole thing.”
I pushed her aside without a second thought and grabbed my textbooks from the locker.
“No need. I’ll honor every part of this bet.”
“Fine. Don’t you dare cry and beg me for mercy later!”
Courtney stormed off in a fit of anger.
The hallway burst into chaos.
“The tomboy thinks she can outscore the top student? Total joke!”
“Can’t wait to watch Jamie shave her head and kneel. The whole pack’s gonna stream it live.”
I brushed off every taunt and provocation, turned into the classroom, and buried myself in my study materials.
I’d never once slacked on my studies over the years.
After Adam started dating around, I’d stayed up late working through practice papers night after night to distract myself, only holding back my true scores during formal exams.
When school ended, Adam slung his arm over my shoulder like he always used to.
“C’mon Jamie, let’s hit the billiards bar.”
I shrugged his arm off and kept packing my backpack.
“I’m not coming.”
Adam blinked in surprise, “What did you say?”
“I said I’m not going. I need to go home and study.”
I stepped around him to leave, but he snatched my wrist and pulled me back.
“Are you out of your mind? You’re actually going through with this stupid bet against Courtney?”
I yanked my wrist free sharply, “Go hang out with Courtney instead. She’s your mate, isn’t she?”
“She’s focused on studying right now, why would I bother her?”
Adam’s tone turned impatient, “Quit being difficult and come on.”
I planted my feet and refused to move.
“Adam, I’m studying too. Don’t wait up for me after night study sessions anymore.”
Adam’s expression darkened instantly.
“What’s your problem? You’re throwing away our friendship over a ridiculous bet?”
I ignored his outburst and walked straight out of the classroom.
His furious voice chased after me, “Fine Jamie. Don’t you ever come crawling back to me! We’re done!”
A cold war fell between us.
He no longer waited for me before school, no longer took the initiative to talk to me.
He openly flaunted his relationship with Courtney at school, clinging to her and showering her with affection right in front of me.
Without Adam’s protection, the pack members at school grew far more reckless with their bullying.
They broke my desk chair and dumped my textbooks in the trash.
Adam stood a short distance away, watching coldly, never lifting a finger to defend me.
He wanted to force me to cave, to make me beg for his forgiveness first.
After every fight we’d ever had before, I’d always been the one to apologize first.
But not this time.
Before after-school tutoring started, I’d always head up to the rooftop to review my lessons peacefully.
The moment I walked back down, I found the entire hallway crowded with students, all staring straight at me.
Sheets of paper covered every locker in the corridor.
Pages torn straight from my personal diary.
Standing in the center of the crowd, Courtney read every word out loud, her voice clear and mocking.
“Adam smiled at me today. I’m so happy.”
“He broke up with another girl. Do I finally have a chance?”
“Adam said we’ll be best friends forever. Fine, I’ll settle for that, as long as I can stay by his side.”
She lifted her gaze to me, curling her lips into a sneer.
“This diary of yours is truly touching, Jamie.”
Laughter exploded through the crowd.
I pushed through the crowd and reached to tear the pages off the lockers.
Courtney grabbed a fistful of my hair and slapped me hard across the face.
“You shameless bitch!”
“Stay away from my boyfriend! You think you can steal him from me? Keep dreaming!”
The sharp crack echoed down the hallway, burning my cheek with raw, stinging pain.
My self-control shattered in an instant.
I lunged forward to fight back, but a pair of hands seized my wrists tightly, yanking me rigid in place.
“Enough! Jamie!”
Adam stepped firmly in front of Courtney, his eyes cold and sharp as blades.
“It’s just a stupid diary. Was throwing a fit and starting a fight really necessary?”
“Did you never think these ridiculous words would get out when you wrote them?”
