After Reading My Boyfriend’s Mind, I Dumped Him for Good Chapter 06

Time seemed to stop.

Something in Atticus’s eyes shattered. “What?”

Before I could respond, Jake Mitchell’s voice called out from inside Harborview Books.

“Cecilia! I’ve been waiting forever. What took you so long?”

Not wanting him to see my reddened eyes, I hurried into the bookstore.

But I hadn’t expected Atticus to follow me in. He trailed behind me in silence.

His thoughts kept forcing their way into my head.

[Why? So annoying. How is she this stupid?]

I picked out my books and paid, treating him like air.

Jake wandered over and lowered his voice. “What happened between you two?”

I glanced toward Atticus.

He stood a short distance away, his expression dark.

His tall frame blocked much of the light from the bookshelf behind him.

“Nothing.” I looked away. “He doesn’t like me. We broke up.”

[I hate this.]

Oh. Not “doesn’t like.” Hate.

I had never thought Atticus hated me before.

But now that I looked back on everything, the signs seemed obvious.

Every time I kissed him, he frowned. Whenever I rambled on and on, he barely said a word.

Maybe he’d been showing it all along.

Jake glanced at me, then at Atticus in the distance, the corner of his mouth lifting.

“Breaking up’s probably for the best.”

“Honestly, I never thought he was that into you anyway.”

I turned toward him. “Where’s Sophia?”

Weren’t the three of us supposed to meet up together? Why was Jake the only one left?

“You took way too long.” Jake rubbed the back of his neck. “She bailed a while ago.

Then he leaned closer, curiosity written all over his face.

“But judging from the way he’s looking at you, it doesn’t seem like Atticus agreed to this breakup.”

He had leaned a little too close.

I frowned and was just about to step back when someone suddenly appeared in front of me. Atticus.

I didn’t even know when he’d walked over.

Then his thoughts slammed into my mind.

[Asshole.]

For a split second, I froze. Then, a fire lit inside me.
