After My Stepson Threw Hot Soup on Me on Christmas Eve, I Bankrupted His Entire Family Chapter 04
I took Lily’s hand and walked out without looking back.
The instant the elevator doors closed, I opened the family payment settings on my phone.
For ten years, Robert’s online shopping account, Brandon’s game charges, even their food delivery — every one of them had been linked to my supplementary credit cards.
One tap.
Unlinked.
Then I called the bank.
“Hello, this is Olivia Carter. I need to report every credit card under my name as lost. Yes — all of them.”
“Including the three supplementary cards. Freeze them. Right now, immediately.”
By the time I was done, the elevator had reached the ground floor.
The snowstorm outside had grown heavier.
But my heart was calmer than it had been in years.
The streets on Christmas Eve were empty.
The snow was coming down fast.
Lily hunched into her collar and gripped my hand, her small face blue from the cold.
“Mom, where are we staying tonight?”
Her voice trembled, edged with tears.
“Are we going to sleep in a subway passage? I’m not afraid of hardship. As long as I’m with you, I’m okay.”
I took off my coat, wrapped it around her, and tightened her scarf with aching tenderness.
“Silly girl. Why would I let you sleep in a subway passage? I’m taking you somewhere good.”
Just then, my phone lit up.
A text popped up on the screen.
It was from Brandon.
Old hag, what did you pull? Why won’t my card go through? Unlock it now. Madison’s waiting for me to buy her a game skin.
I glanced at it, swiped it away, and blocked him.
Less than thirty seconds later, a call came in.
Brandon again.
I hung up.
Then Robert called.
I looked at the word Husband flashing on the screen.
A cold smile touched my mouth.
I blocked him too.
The world stayed quiet for about ten seconds.
Then the third-floor window of the building behind us flew open.
Brandon’s roar crashed down through the wind and snow.
“Goddamn it! You old hag, you really blocked me? Did you shut off the supplementary cards?”
Robert’s voice followed.
“Olivia! How can you be so heartless? You walked away from the assets — the money on those cards belongs with us!”
“This is fraud. Restore them now, or I’m calling the cops and having you arrested.”
At that moment, two beams of headlights swept across Brandon’s twisted face, making him squint.
A black Mercedes S-Class glided silently to the curb and stopped in front of me.
