A Debt Repaid In Blood, A Marriage Paid In Silence Chapter 03

Despair crashed over me like a suffocating net, wrapping around every part of my body.

“NOLA!”

My bloodcurdling scream echoed through the villa.

I ran out, a desperate lioness, and pinned Lila to the floor.

I grabbed her by the throat and screamed like a madwoman, “WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY DAUGHTER?!”

Lila’s face turned purple, and malice flashed in her bulging eyes.

“The little brat… wouldn’t stop crying. I just gave her a little sleeping pill, that’s all..”

My vision went black, and my ears rang with the sound of a demon’s scream.

I squeezed harder and harder, and Lila’s screams grew fainter and fainter.

Suddenly, a powerful hand yanked me off her from behind.

Julian grabbed Lila in a panic and roared at me in fury.

“You’re insane! You almost killed her!”

I pushed myself up off the floor, tears streaming down my face, and screamed in utter despair,

“SHE DESERVES TO DIE! SHE GAVE NOLA A SLEEPING PILL! SHE TRIED TO KILL HER!”

Julian froze, panic flashing in his eyes. He immediately turned to check on Nola.

But Lila grabbed his sleeve and whimpered,

“I only gave her a tiny bit! I even asked a doctor, it’s completely safe! She’s just using this as an excuse to hit me!”

She looked at me, her face still etched with the fear of death.

“If you hate me this much, I’ll leave. But I don’t deserve to die for it, do I!”

With that, she broke into a fit of coughs, her body shaking like a butterfly in a storm.

Julian stared at the purple bruises on her neck, his face softening with pity. Seconds later, he turned to me and said coldly,

“Apologize to her.”

I stared at him in disbelief, a sharp, searing pain tearing through my body.

“SHE’S YOUR DAUGHTER! IS SHE NOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR MISTRESS?!”

Julian looked away, refusing to meet my red, swollen eyes.

His voice was cold and flat. “All I know is you almost murdered someone. Apologize. Now.”

My vision blurred with dizziness. I walked into the nursery, picked up the baby, and headed for the door.

Julian didn’t stop me, but his face grew darker and darker.

“Wren Hale, walk out that door and don’t you dare come back!”

His taunting words were like he was shooing a stray dog away.

But I didn’t care. All I wanted was for my daughter to be healthy.

When we got to the hospital, the tests showed Nola was okay, but the doctor’s face was grim.

“You can’t give a baby sleeping pills! What kind of mother are you? In this country, they’d take your custody rights away in a heartbeat!”

The doctor’s scolding washed over me. I hung my head in shame and heartache.

That night, I didn’t take my daughter back to the villa.

I never would again. I couldn’t leave Nola in that hellhole.

So the next day, I went back to the villa alone.

Julian didn’t look the least bit worried about our daughter. Instead, he was hosting a birthday party for Lila with his friends.

I didn’t spare them a single glance. I walked straight to the closet and started shoving my documents and clothes into a suitcase.

A strong hand suddenly grabbed my wrist. Julian stared at me with blazing anger.

“Wren Hale, what the hell are you up to this early in the morning? Where’s the baby!”

I wrenched my arm free and said coldly, “I’m never giving her back to you.”

Before he could fly into a rage, I cut to the chase. “Julian Hartford, I want a divorce.”
