He Was Her Ex-Brother-In-Law Chapter 03

He Was Her Ex-Brother-In-Law Chapter 03

Just as I was working out how to push Asher past his breaking point, Celeste Sterling showed up.

His business partner. And notoriously, in our entire circle, the woman with the most obvious designs on Asher.

The moment she saw me sitting in the living room, her expression twisted. “What are you doing here?”

I was lounging with a plate of fruit, legs crossed. I didn’t even look up. “I live here.”

Celeste froze. “Asher let you live here?”

“What do you think? I scaled the fence and broke in?”

Her face went green. She clicked her heels up the stairs to find Asher.

I didn’t follow. I knew exactly what she was about to say.

Ten minutes later, Asher came downstairs.

Celeste trailed behind him, her face a mask of barely contained fury. “Sienna. Ground-floor guest room. Starting now.”

Asher’s voice was flat.

“Why?”

“No reason.”

Celeste smiled, smug. “You heard him. Asher wants you to move.”

I stood up, walked over to Asher, and tilted my head back to meet his eyes.

“Mr. Blackwood. The contract says round-the-clock personal service. You think the ground floor qualifies?”

He looked down at me. “I wrote the contract. I decide what it means.”

I smiled, hooked a finger around his tie, and pulled him downward.

His face dipped close to mine, noses almost touching. “Fine. You decide. But are you sure you want me on the ground floor?”

My voice dropped low, just for him. “If I sleepwalk at night and end up in the wrong room… don’t blame me.”

Asher’s pupils contracted.

He ripped his tie out of my grip and turned away. “Forget it. She stays.”

Celeste’s jaw dropped. “Asher…”

“Go home. We’re done talking for today.”

She shot me a venomous glare and left, furious.

In the dead of night, the estate went dark.

I changed into my new Catwoman-inspired lingerie and crept upstairs barefoot.

I eased open Asher’s door.

He was in bed, breathing slow and even.

I crossed the room without a sound, lifted the covers, and slipped inside.

His body snapped taut instantly. “Sienna.”

His voice carried a warning.

I didn’t speak. I pressed my cheek to his chest.

My fingers traced a path down his abs.

He caught my hand. “What is it going to take?”

I lifted my head and stared into his eyes through the darkness. “You think I don’t notice every cold shower you take? How much longer do you think you can last?”

His breath came faster. “Sienna. I was your sister’s husband.”

“You’re not anymore.”

I corrected him.

“No legal ties. None. If you really feel nothing, push me off this bed. Right now.”

“I’ll walk out tomorrow. You’ll never see me again. I swear.”

We stared at each other in the dark.

His hand was still wrapped around my wrist, but his grip was loosening. Fading.

I lifted my other hand and touched his face.

My fingertips traced his brow bone, the bridge of his nose. They came to rest on his lips. “Asher. You want me. You know you do.”

He closed his eyes. His throat worked.

Then he flipped me onto my back and pinned me beneath him.
