The Fireworks Weren’t for Me, the Baby Wasn’t Mine Chapter 07
His voice was trembling.Â
This man, who was usually so in control and arrogant, now had shaking fingertips.Â
He couldn’t even finish a sentence.Â
I looked down again.Â
It was only then that I understood what hadÂ
happened.Â
I had been pregnant without knowing it.Â
And I was miscarrying.Â
A dull, heavy pain suddenly swept through myÂ
entire body.Â
It spread from the wounds on my knees to my abdomen, like a hand was violently tearing at my internal organs. The pain made me spasm, andÂ
my vision went dark.Â
I couldn’t stop groaning in pain.Â
Harrison completely panicked.Â
He rushed over, wanting to crouch down and holdÂ
me, but because his hands were shaking so badly,Â
he only managed to grab my clothes a few times.Â
“Madeline! Don’t scare me!”Â
“What’s wrong with you!”Â
His voice carried a panic I had never heard before.Â
He reached out to touch me, then pulled back forÂ
fear of hurting me, his hands hovering in mid–air,Â
helpless.Â
“Harrison…” I gasped, every word taking all myÂ
strength, “is your… curse coming true…”Â
“We really lost the child…”Â
“Are you satisfied now…”Â
The color drained from Harrison’s face.Â
“Shut up! Don’t talk!” he barked.Â
“I’m taking you to the hospital immediately.”Â
I felt a visceral rejection of his touch; even theÂ
familiar scent of his sandalwood cologne made.Â
me want to vomit.Â
I instinctively tried to push him away.Â
Harrison simply picked me up in his arms. “Don’t move, you’re still bleeding!”Â
“If you want to live, if you want Leo to still have you, stay still and let’s go to the hospital.”Â
The warmth of his embrace was still familiar.Â
But I only felt a bone–chilling cold. I fought to push him off, but my strength was fading, and my consciousness began to blur.Â
In my ear was Harrison’s rapid, frantic heartbeat.Â
Thump–thump-Â
Thump–thump-Â
I remember long ago, I loved lying on his chest listening to that sound.Â
Listening to his heart skip a beat for me.Â
Listening to his body tell me he loved me.Â
“Harrison, I’m telling you, what I want is a love thatÂ
never wavers.”Â
“If I ever find out you don’t love me that muchÂ
anymore, I will leave without hesitation.”Â
“And you will never find me again.”Â
I had said those words half–joking, half–serious.Â
Harrison was resting his head on my lap. HearingÂ
this, he turned and rubbed his head against myÂ
belly.Â
“Of course.”Â
“With our child as witness, I, Harrison Sterling,Â
swear that in this life I will only love you two, andÂ
only be good to you two.”Â
“We will absolutely be the happiest family of threeÂ
in the world.”Â
“If I break this vow, may God strike me down.”Â
His voice finally faded from my ears.Â
My world fell into absolute darkness.
