My Husband Told Me To Go West And The Comments Said Don’t Chapter 06
Mr. Sterling sat across from me, wearing a smile.
“Evan went too far this time. I’ll give him a warning today. Does that work for you?
“Just a warning?”
I stared at him, cold.
He chuckled. “A warning is already serious for him. You know he’s always been the company’s star performer. He built so much of this business himself.”
“So you’re protecting him, Mr. Sterling?”
He sighed.
“Luna, I’m doing this for you.”
I frowned.
“You and him have been together for ten years. If you blow this up, it won’t end well for you either.
One warning is enough.”
“Not enough.”
My voice was sharp, final.
“I made myself clear. Termination. And Serena White goes too.”
Mr. Sterling’s face twisted with reluctance.
“Anyone else, and I’d say fine. But Serena… Evan personally asked me to bring her on. If I fire her
now, it’ll look bad for him.”
I stared at him in disbelief.
“Serena White… Evan personally hired her?”
He nodded.
But Evan had told me-over and over-how much he hated that assistant. How slow she was. How
she never got anything right.
A bitter laugh escaped me.
How many times had he lied to my face?
“Luna, I’ll give Serena a warning too. Let’s just call it here. If you keep pushing, it won’t look go for either of you.”
“I don’t care.”
He blinked.
I held his gaze, ice in my voice.
“Evan Roth and Serena White. They need to face real consequences.”
“You’re really going to go after your own husband?”
“Not for long.”
He looked at me, saw I wasn’t backing down. Opened his mouth, then closed it.
Finally, he sighed.
“Fine. I’ll handle it.”
“Thank you.”
I grabbed my bag and walked out.
The decision came down fast. I checked it the second it landed.
And there it was-on the official letter:
[Letter of Reprimand]
Nothing else.
Evan Roth and Serena White kept their positions.
My blood boiled. I was about to file another complaint when my phone buzzed. Captain Hayes.
“Something’s happened. Check the news.’
Frowning, I clicked on the link.
A headline blazed across the screen:
[Luna Clarke Abused Rescue Authority to Save Her Own Son, Resulting in Death of Innocent
4YearOld]
I opened it.
There was Serena, kneeling over her son’s body, screaming in grief. No context. No backstory. Just
a mother’s raw anguish.
And then-someone had leaked the video of Serena being hit. Evan throwing himself in front of her
The comments exploded:
[Holy shit! What kind of rescue team is this? They abuse their authority and then beat up the family when they try to speak up?!]
[Isn’t this supposed to be a rescue team? When did human lives become a tool for personal gainy
[Investigate this! Who was on the rescue team that day?!]
I watched the outrage continue to climb.
And I finally understood why Mr. Sterling had fought me so hard.
The court of public opinion had never been on my side.
And who had leaked all that material?
I didn’t have to guess.
The backlash was so severe that the team called a press conference. Evan and Serena were there too. The cameras flashed in my face, disorienting me.
“Ms. Clarke, why did you insist on taking East Ridge to save your own child?”
