I Bought Two Wolf Brothers For Warmth And The Comments Called Me Evil Chapter 08

I stared at the floating comments, and the chill crept down my spine.

Because another thought had already formed.

What if fate dragged him toward Chloe too? What if keeping him beside me now was just waiting for

the inevitable?

The thought barely finished before I took half a step back without thinking.

Kaelen caught it immediately.

He turned, saw my face, and something in his expression locked down.

The next second, he pulled me back into his arms.

“She means nothing to me.”

I froze.

He looked down at me. His voice was low, rough at the edges, almost urgent.

“You’re the only one I see.”

“From the second you brought me home, there’s been no one else.”

He said it so plainly it hit like a wall. I wasn’t the only one who stalled. Even the snow wolf brothers, still braced against the wreckage, went still for a beat.

The floating comments across my vision erupted.

[can he see the comments too?]

[the plot is officially dead]

[two male leads plus a villain, all orbiting the villainess??]

[wait what villainess. what has she actually done wrong]

[she saved the snow wolf brothers AND the panther. is it really that weird that people care about

her]

The tone of the comments was shifting.

Some were still tearing me apart. But for the first time, there were voices on my side.

The words rolled past, one after another.

And then, as if something had tripped a wire, every single comment vanished at once.

The room went silent. So silent I could hear my own breathing.

Kaelen was still watching me.

Like he was afraid I didn’t believe him, he said it again, softer this time.

“I don’t want to become the kind of person they predicted.”

“Fuck destiny.”

“I just want to stay with you.”

I didn’t pull away this time.

I looked at him, and that tangle of panic and noise inside me finally began to settle.

Then I turned to the snow wolf brothers and spoke clearly.

“I filed the paperwork a long time ago.”

“The contract, the arrangement, everything between us. It’s done.”

“From here on out, we go our separate ways. Don’t come looking for me.”

Jaxon stood there, pale as paper.

His mouth opened, but nothing came out.

Silas was silent too. The injuries on his shoulder and knee made him unsteady on his feet, but his

eyes hadn’t left me.

This time, neither of them had any right to say more.

Kaelen stepped forward and gave them one cold look.

His presence alone was enough.

The snow wolf brothers backed out, willing or not.

The moment the door closed, every muscle in my body let go.

Kaelen dipped his head and pressed his forehead against mine.

“When I was fighting just now, something jogged loose in my memory.”

I looked up at him.

“There’s a place called Obsidian Creek, deep in the Northern Ridge.”

“I think that’s where I came from.”

“It’s far from here. Far from all of this.”

His fingers laced through mine as he spoke.

“If you want, we go together.”

“Somewhere no one can reach us.”

I barely hesitated. I just nodded.

Because it was only then that I finally understood what I wanted.

I didn’t want to stay here anymore. I didn’t want to keep living in a world where everyone else knew

the script and I was the only one walking blind.

The next day, I took Kaelen to Mr. Sterling’s clinic for a bloodline assessment.

When the results came back, even Mr. Sterling himself went still.

He looked at the sheet, then at Kaelen, and dropped his voice.

“Ancient dual bloodline.”

“This city hasn’t seen one in nearly a hundred years.”

“And you’ve already formed a primal mating bond. His bloodline can stabilize the cold condition in

your body.”

I held that result sheet, and the last trace of doubt in me dissolved.

This time, I wasn’t gambling. I was choosing.

The day we left, Kaelen and I packed our things and headed downstairs.

The second I walked out the door, I saw them.

The snow wolf brothers were standing at the bottom of the steps, and what they were wearing

stopped me cold: the fleece-lined parkas I’d made for them years ago.

I’d loved the design. Soft collars, pale embroidery stitched into the lining.

They’d called them too flashy back then and never put them on.

Now they were wearing them, both of them, as if they’d meant for me to see.

jaxon reached me first.

This time there was no edge in him, no hardness, no pride. His eyes were red and wrecked.

“Don’t go.”

“What I said before, I didn’t mean it. It’s not that I didn’t care. I just…”

His voice broke at the end.

“I just got used to you always being there.”

I looked at him. There was nothing left to feel.

“Jaxon. It’s over.”

I turned to leave.

But the hand on my wrist this time was Silas’s.

The one who never cracked, who never showed anything. And now the rims of his eyes were red.

He looked at me, and his voice barely held.

“It was my fault.”

“I knew you were afraid of the cold and afraid of being left behind, and I used that against you

anyway.”

“If you stay, I’ll change. Whatever it takes.”

And then he said something I never thought I’d hear from him.

“I’ll share you. Even if all four of us have to live under the same roof, I’ll swallow my pride and

make it work.”

I listened to every word. And all I felt was how absurd it was.

I looked at them, steady and calm.

“No.”

“Because Kaelen is enough.”

I pulled out the test results and made sure they heard every word.

“He’s not an ordinary black panther.”

“He carries an ancient dual bloodline.”

“His body temperature, his strength, his recovery. He outclasses you in every way.”

“And his bloodline naturally suppresses the cold. My condition is already stabilizing.”

I paused, watched the color drain from both their faces, and kept going.

“Our mating bond has already taken root.”

“If my condition ever flares again, the only person I’ll need is him.”

I held their gaze. “So the one thing you were still counting on, that I could never leave you, is gone

now.”

The snow wolf brothers went pale at the same time.

Jaxon looked like he’d been hollowed out. Even his tail hung limp.

Silas staggered, and his fingers clenched, but he didn’t reach for me again.

I didn’t look back.

Kaelen took the bags from my hands and steadied me with his free arm.

We walked together toward the carriage waiting by the road.

The wind came up the street, carrying a thread of cold. But this time, I didn’t feel it.

Because I knew.

The two people behind me would never be able to hold me again.

And this time, they’d never catch up.
