He Let Her Move Into His Dorm, I Moved Out of the Country Chapter 05

He Let Her Move Into His Dorm, I Moved Out of the Country Chapter 05

Adrian’s hands went weak, and his phone clattered

to the floor.

He did not believe what the officer had said.

He refused to believe that Lauren would leave him

so decisively and so quietly without leaving him a single word or making even one phone call.

He and Lauren had grown up together as

childhood sweethearts.

They had more than twenty years of history, five

years as a couple, and three years of engagement

behind them.

After so many years together, after loving each

other for so many years, how could Lauren bear to

do it? How could she have the heart to leave him

alone?

Adrian clung to that selfdeception and tried to

find something that would prove him right.

He searched from the living room to the bedroom,

trying to find the matching things they used to

have as a couple: matching slippers, matching

toothbrushes, and matching mugs.

But one by one, all he found was his own half.

Not only did he fail to prove the tiny hope buried in

his heart that Lauren had not truly left, everything

he found only confirmed what the officer had said.

Lauren had left on her own, willingly and deliberately.

Adrian sat on the floor of the study, holding the

only photo he could still find of himself and Lauren, grief spreading through him.

He could not accept that Lauren had really been cruel enough to leave.

That was more than twenty years of history. Just because he had neglected her for three years, did those twenty years really not deserve even a little

consideration?

Adrian looked at the photo in his arms, at Lauren smiling so openly and happily, and his eyes went unfocused.

A ping pulled Adrian back to the present.

He looked at his phone. It was a message from Mia.

Mia: [Professor Grant, is Ms. Reed still mad that

you brought me to your home?]

Mia: [If Ms. Reed is still upset, I can come

apologize to her right away.]

In the past, when Adrian saw a message like that,

he would have immediately comforted Mia and

told her there was no need.

But now, Adrian’s eyes and mind were filled with

only Lauren.

The scene from the day he left for his business

trip, when he and Lauren confronted each other at

home, rose before his eyes.

At the time, all he had thought about was

protecting his student. He had wanted Lauren to

be more understanding and stop arguing with him.

over something so small.

So he had ignored Lauren’s feelings the entire

time.

Looking back now, when Lauren had questioned

him so sharply that day, her eyes had clearly been

filled with despair and sadness.

And what had he been doing then?

He had been protecting Mia. He had been

demanding that Lauren take care of Mia. He had

called Lauren a hysterical shrew, and he had even

slapped her.

At that thought, Adrian raised his hand and

slapped himself hard across the face.

Tears blurred his eyes. Adrian looked at the

smiling Lauren in the photo and wanted to

apologize, but when he opened his mouth, all that

came out were choked sobs.

He did not know how much time had passed

before the dark sky brightened again.

Looking at Lauren in the photo, Adrian made up

his mind.

He had to find Lauren and bring her back.

He admitted that he had done wrong over the past

three years.

But Lauren loved him so much. Even now, she had only left because she was disappointed in him.

So as long as he apologized, as long as he changed, Lauren would forgive him and come

back to him.

But before Adrian could put that thought into

action, he received a legal notice from Lauren’s

attorney.

Lauren had filed a claim against him, demanding

that he return the money from their joint account

that had been transferred without her permission.
