The corridor fell into a silence so absolute you could hear their breathing.
Sloane’s face froze mid–sob.
Jacob snapped his head up, his skin turning a sickly, translucent white.
I unpinned the body camera and handed it to the officers.
“From the moment I received the marrow, to soothing the donor’s family, through two unauthorized openings of the cryo–cooler and the detour after landing–everything is recorded.
“Since the family wants to hold someone accountable, let’s see who really killed her.”
The police accessed the footage immediately.
A crowd gathered around the tablet in the hallway, watching the nightmare unfold frame by frame.
On the screen, Sloane’s eyes were wild as she screamed about a bomb, triggering a wave of terror throughout the cabin.
Then, my voice, clear and unwavering. “Mr. Harrison, opening this will ensure the cells become non–viable. Are you sure you want to proceed?”
Jacob’s verbal confirmation was undeniable.
It was ironclad evidence.
When the video finished, the Hospital Chief slammed the tablet onto the bench, his face livid.
“Dr. Carey fulfilled her professional protocol to the letter. She warned the family, and not once did she open that cooler on her own.”
“The people who tampered with emergency medical materials were the recipient’s own family.”
“This hospital will be filing a report against Jacob Harrison and Sloane, for obstructing medical transport.”
The lead officer closed his notepad.
They were already here because the airline had filed a federal report, falsely claiming a bomb on a flight was a serious crime that had caused nationwide panic.
Dozens of passengers had uploaded their own clips, in which Sloane screaming “bomb” and ther laughing about her “acting skills.”
The videos were already trending on social media.
The public was calling for the heads of the “Toxic Elite Duo“.
When medical experts pointed out that their stunt hadn’t just wasted a donation, it had effectively
murdered a woman. The anger reached a fever pitch.
“Sloane Bennett, Jacob Harrison. please come with us to the station.”
The words hit Sloane like a physical blow. Her knees buckled, and she collapsed onto the floor.
She was finally terrified.
“No! It was just a joke! I didn’t mean it! Jacob, tell them! You know I was just acting! I just wanted to make everyone laugh!”
Jacob stood there like a hollow shell.
His lips moved, but no sound came out.
Then, he seemed to wake up from the nightmare.
He spun around and grabbed Sloane’s wrist, his eyes bloodshot and manic.
“Your ‘joke‘ killed my mother! She’s dead! Sloane, she’s dead because of you!”
He screamed it, his voice shaking the very walls of the hospital.
It seemed he finally understood that “being a little playful” could weigh as much as a corpse.
He squeezed her wrist until she gasped in pain, tears streaming down her face.
In the past, Jacob would have panicked and spent hours soothing her.
This time, he just ignorned her.
He swung his hand and slapped her across the face so hard her head snapped back.
Her cheek began to swell instantly.
I watched from the sidelines, watching the dogs turn on each other. It was pathetic.
Jacob was always the same.
In my last life, while his mother was alive, he blamed me for ruining Sloane.
In this life, now that his mother was dead, he poured all his rage into Sloane.
But not once did he admit that he was the one who confirmed. He was the one who wanted his soda
chilled in a life–saving cooler.
He wasn’t innocent. He just had a habit of cutting himself out of the blame.
As the officers stepped forward to take them into custody, Sloane grabbed at the last straw.
She clutched her stomach.
“You can’t arrest me! I’m pregnant!”
