The Mafia Princess Is a Miracle Healer Chapter 03

Then I started noticing things.

A perfume that wasn’t mine on Carlo’s clothes.

He stopped coming home at night. “Family business,” he kept saying.

He started picking fights, calling me dramatic, unreasonable.

I already knew the answer. I hired a PI anyway.

I’d braced myself for an affair. I’d told myself I could handle that.

What I hadn’t prepared for was finding out the other woman was Caitlyn.

My best friend.

And the accident that nearly killed him? He hadn’t been coming to see me.

He’d been with Caitlyn, and a rival family had caught them together and seized the opportunity to strike.

The entire Vittori household had known.

Every single one of them had covered it up.

I printed out the divorce papers and went to confront him.

But Caitlyn got there first.

She called me in for a meeting and laid it all out, calmly, without a flicker of guilt.

“We were together long before you came into the picture.”

“If you hadn’t used that life-debt to wedge your way into this family, I’d be Mrs. Vittori right now.”

No shame. No apology. If anything, she looked pleased with herself.

Then she let her hand drift to her stomach.

“Enjoy the position while it lasts, though.”

“I’m pregnant. The first Vittori grandchild of the next generation.”

“You can’t compete with that.”

I had no interest in competing.

Carlo wasn’t everything to me. I had my practice, my craft, my own ambitions.

Without him, I’d be fine.

I was about to tell her exactly that.

Then she grabbed her stomach and collapsed.

“Elena, I love him, whatever you think of me.”

“Hate me if you want. But please don’t hurt my baby.”

“The child is innocent…”

I didn’t understand what was happening. Instinct kicked in and I moved toward her to help.

Carlo burst through the door and swept Caitlyn into his arms.

I’d never seen him like that. Frantic. Terrified.

He turned to me with red eyes and swung.

His hand cracked across my face.

“If you’re angry at me, come at me. Why the hell would you go after her baby?”

I couldn’t wrap my head around it.

How had Caitlyn been willing to use her own child as a weapon, the same child she’d been bragging about a minute ago?

Unless something was already wrong with the pregnancy.

The baby didn’t survive.

Carlo locked me up.

One of the doctors treating Caitlyn came to see him.

“Miss Caitlyn’s water was contaminated. Some kind of herbal compound, complex and hard to trace.”

“The damage is permanent. She won’t be able to have children.”

“Modern medicine can’t fix this. But if Mrs. Vittori were willing to use her acupuncture skills, there might still be a chance.”

Carlo dragged me in front of Caitlyn and demanded I treat her.

I didn’t have that ability.

The techniques my master taught me were for healing, not for undoing what a twisted, greedy heart had done to itself.

And I was already hollowed out from saving Carlo.

In that condition, I couldn’t have performed the Thirteen Ghost Needles a second time even if I’d wanted to.

Carlo didn’t believe me.

Or maybe he just refused to.

He forced me to my knees in front of Caitlyn and spoke words that cut like a blade.

“Did you really think I loved you?”

“If my grandmother hadn’t pressured me into repaying the debt, I never would’ve married you.”

“Caitlyn has already sacrificed so much. Why can’t you just accept your loss and move on?”

“If you don’t fix her right now, those hands of yours are done.”
