She Mocked My “Useless” Husband Then My Family Ended the Party Chapter 04
Felix adjusted his glasses.
His eyes moved from the screen to me and back again.
One sentence. That’s all it would take. I don’t know this woman. And it would be over.
Felix said nothing.
He dropped his gaze. He wouldn’t look at me.
When he looked up again, his face settled into something wounded. Something rehearsed.
“Miss Hayes.”
He sighed, soft and patient, the way you’d talk to a mental patient. But there was something cold underneath.
“I told you a long time ago this wasn’t going to happen.”
“Why can’t you let it go?”
“You followed me here, to my wife’s event, to cause a scene?”
The blood seemed to drain out of me.
“What did you say?”
My voice shook.
“Are you insane? I’ve never met you in my life!”
Felix didn’t look at me again.
He turned to Chloe and took her hands.
“Chloe, I’m sorry.”
“She wouldn’t stop. And I… I should’ve shut it down harder, but I felt sorry for her.”
“But it’s always been you. Only you.”
“I’ll take care of this. Please, don’t be upset.”
Chloe’s face twisted.
“Slut!”
She spun around and kicked me in the stomach.
The force sent me sliding across the floor.
Pain tore through my gut, so sharp my body seized up.
“Still want to deny it?”
Chloe was screaming now, past the point of reason.
“He just admitted it to my face! And you’re still lying?”
I curled around my stomach, drenched in cold sweat.
I watched Felix’s eyes slide away from mine, and it clicked.
He knew I wasn’t the woman in that photo.
He knew exactly who she was, and he was protecting her.
So he sacrificed me without a second thought.
“Felix… you’ll pay for this. I swear to God, you’ll pay.”
I locked my eyes on his.
Something guilty flickered behind his expression, there and gone in a breath.
“Get her up.”
Chloe’s voice was ice.
“Make her kneel!”
Bodyguards pinned me down and forced me to my knees, facing the screen.
Chloe pointed at Julian. He wasn’t moving anymore.
“Drag him over to the display case.”
The display case used a high-powered electromagnetic field, strong enough to levitate jewelry in midair.
“No!”
I thrashed against the hands holding me down.
“He has a pacemaker! The magnet will shut it down. His heart will stop!”
“Please. Please, don’t do this!”
Chloe didn’t even flinch.
The bodyguards dragged Julian toward the display case.
The second they brought him close, the heart monitor on Julian’s chest screamed, one long, piercing alarm.
His body seized. His eyes rolled back.
“Julian!”
The scream that ripped out of me didn’t sound human.
Chloe stepped in front of me.
CRACK.
The sound echoed through the hall.
My cheek burned hot and tight, and I tasted blood.
Chloe rolled her wrist, flexing it.
“That one was for not knowing your place.”
She raised her hand again.
CRACK.
“And that one was for playing the innocent victim.”
The alarm on Julian’s monitor climbed higher, more shrill.
I watched the life drain from Julian’s face, and something inside me went cold and still.
I bit the inside of my cheek until I tasted copper. My eyes never left hers.
“You’d better pray you finish me today. Because if I walk out of here”
