Life Swapped, Sister’s Downfall Chapter 08
“Hahaha! You actually came, Harper!”
Emma pressed the tip of a knife against my mother’s neck.
My mother, panicked, turned to me. “You brat! You don’t want to get rich yourself, yet you block your sister! Does our whole family owe you anything?”
I didn’t even have the energy to roll my eyes. I had come here carrying the last shred of conscience, only for it to vanish the moment she yelled.
“Emma, if you turn yourself in, I can still plead for mercy on your behalf. Keep resisting like this, and you’re just tying your own noose!!!
I really couldn’t understand her. Axel had been caught. She was free now. Why would she insist on risking / everything?
“Bah! Bah! In this life, you schemed against me and won! But next life? You won’t be so lucky! I’ll strangle you before you’re even born!”
Pathetic.
So this was her plan-to drag me here and die with me, hoping for a second chance at life.
“Emma… didn’t you tell Mom you just wanted to vent your anger on me? You… really intend to kill her?”
My mother suddenly realized the truth. Her panic was obvious.
“Harper! Die!”
In the next instant, Emma shoved my mother aside and lunged at me with the knife. I braced to fight back and froze in shock. My mother had thrown herself in front of me.
“Mom… you’re helping that bitch Harper instead of me?”
Emma stared at her in disbelief before spinning back to glare at me, her eyes murderous. Today, she would not rest without killing me.
“Police! Freeze!”
Jason appeared, handcuffs at the ready, snapping them onto Emma’s wrists with effortless authority.
“How did you know I was here if I hadn’t called the police?” she spat.
Jason smiled faintly. “Just happened to be passing by.”
Right. Of course.
Emma was taken away, and I accompanied my mother into the ambulance.
“Harper… you should plead for your sister. She’s your real sister; you should help her,” my mother said weakly.
Without hesitation, I pulled my hand free from hers. “When she hurt me, did she ever think I was her sister? Don’t say another word. If you hadn’t taken that knife for me, I wouldn’t even speak to you right now. I’ll send you money for your care. That’s all. Nothing else.”
Emma was sentenced for intentional injury. My mother, struck by the shock, fell seriously ill. I transferred her to a reputable hospital and arranged constant care. She asked to see me, but I refused.
I had done enough.
Oh, and I got married-my husband is Jason.
He said we were destined to meet. The first time he saw me, I had been knocked down by my mother The second time, I was harassed by my sister’s husband. And the third time… my sister tried to kill me.
“I’ve never seen a family like yours,” he said.
I smiled bitterly and told him about my family’s old-fashioned preference for sons.
“Preference for sons? That era ended over a century ago! How can anyone still think that way?”
“What if I have a daughter in the future? Will your family favor sons too?”
Jason raised his hand, swearing. “Absolutely not!”
