My Best Friend Stole an Heir, So I Cleared House as the Lawful Wife Chapter 10

After I was discharged, Damian supported me carefully as we walked into the Moretti family estate. It was an old estate with several hundred years of history. Along with Don Vito’s inheritance, it had now been placed into the new trust. The compound gate loomed ahead, stern and imposing, the Moretti crest worked into the iron. Just as we reached the front gate, Nicholas and Donna Serena rushed over with eager smiles. One tried to support me. The other reached for the luggage. Camilla

stood not far away, her face dark.

“Donna Olivia has done more for this family than anyone,” Donna Serena said quickly. “Don’t let

her tire herself out. Hurry inside and rest.”

Damian pulled me into his arms. His face went cold as he blocked them.

“I’ve already arranged a housekeeper. We don’t need your concern.”

Donna Serena gave an awkward smile.

“We’re all family. Surely we don’t have to hold grudges forever.”

Then she took my hand, trying to act close.

“As long as Olivia doesn’t hold a grudge, I promise that from now on, whatever Donna Olivia tells me to do, I will do.”

Damian sneered.

“Fine. You want to enter my compound? It’s not impossible.”

He pointed at Camilla.

“Make her kneel and apologize to Donna Olivia. When Donna Olivia accepts it, we can talk.”

Camilla exploded.

“Make me apologize to her? Does she even deserve it?”

The second Donna Serena realized there was still a chance, she pressed Camilla down and tried to force her to kneel. Camilla stared at her, stunned. She could not believe her own mother would do

that.

“Mom, I’m your daughter. Stop treating me like some disposable soldier.”

Seeing that Camilla still refused, Donna Serena pinched her arm hard. Her face twisted with

urgency.

“Apologize. Whether your mother can return to the compound for the rest of her life depends on

you.”

She hit and shoved Camilla. When Camilla still would not move, Donna Serena hardened her heart and bit Camilla’s arm. Nicholas was so furious that he kicked Camilla to the ground. All because of one sentence from Damian, the three Morettis turned on one another completely. They fell apart right there at the gate. I had seen enough. I pulled Damian away. Seeing us leave, Donna Serena grabbed Damian’s sleeve.

“Son, forgive your mother. I was confused for a moment. I promise I’ll change.”

Damian shook her off.

“This is where we part ways. Don’t let me see any of you again. Soldiers, escort them out.”

Ten years went by. The children were almost old enough for middle school. Over the years, Nicholas and Donna Serena still came by now and then to harass us. Every time, Damian had the soldiers stop them outside the compound. He never let me worry about it. Vera was still serving her sentence in prison. One year after she went in, she was transferred into psychiatric care. She spent her days imagining that people were trying to hurt her. Later, she became violent and fought almost everyone in her cell block. Noah passed away two years later. That poor child had come into the world because of one woman’s selfish greed. Before he could enjoy even a little kindness, he was gone. I sat by the estate’s open-air pool, sunlight warm on my skin as the children’s laughter rang across the garden. Damian bent down and kissed me between the brows.

I smiled. After everything we had survived, my life finally felt whole.
