His Stallion Was Hers, But the Plains Had Other Choices Chapter 07

Caleb frowned. “Mom, just because somebody got hurt doesn’t automatically make them right.”

“You can’t convict someone just on two people’s word. What are cops even for?”

Dylan looked at me. Complicated. “Tessa. Come here.”

“Apologize to Chloe nicely. Leave that guy.”

“I can convince her not to press charges.”

I scowled. “Dylan, are you insane? I didn’t do anything wrong. Why would I apologize?”

Chloe’s parents walked in late and heard that. Exploded.

“Who do you think you are, forgiving the person who hurt our daughter?”

“We want compensation. And we want her to pay.”

Chloe had backup now. She yelled at Dylan. “Don’t you dare speak for me!”

“Even if Tessa got on her knees and begged, I wouldn’t let this go!”

What started as baseless rumors was suddenly looking real.

I pulled out my phone and called the police.

“Save the drama for the police station. I’m happy to take this all the way.”

Mom glared at them. “They planned this. They picked the day you’re meeting Caleb’s family to drag you through the mud.”

Caleb squeezed my hand. “Don’t be scared. I’m with you.”

“Mom, you stay too. Watch how these scammers operate.”

“So next time someone tries to pin something on me, you’ll know who to believe.”

The cops came fast.

Chloe struck first. “Tessa poisoned Storm’s grain to make him crazy. That’s why I fell.”

“My injuries are the proof. I’ll go get a medical report right now if you want.”

“Arrest her!”

The officer cut her off. “Hold on. I need to ask a few things.”

“Did Tessa rent the horse to you?”

Chloe froze. Shook her head.

“So you rode Tessa’s horse voluntarily?”

Chloe shook her head again, looking embarrassed.

The officer closed his notebook. “Filing a false police report is a crime. Get your story straight

before you speak.”

That’s when I spoke up. Calm and slow.

“Hi. I’m the one who called.”

The officer reopened his notebook and came to me.

“I’m Tessa Nolan.’

“Storm belongs to her childhood friend Dylan Miller. He raised that horse. Has nothing to do with

me.”

“I didn’t put anything weird in his feed.’

“Her family blocked my way and blamed me for everything.”

“To protect my safety, I called you.”

“This is ridiculous.”

“Ms. Nolan, you’re free to go.”

Chloe struggled to push her wheelchair in front of me. “You can’t let her leave! You haven’t even investigated!”

“Did they buy you off too? I’m suing!”

The officer sighed. “Ms. Nolan filed a police report on Valentine’s Day.”

“Our experts examined everything. No drugs. The horse was just starving.”

“You bring a horse that hasn’t eaten in three days? Of course he went crazy.”
