The Pet My Family Gave Me Was the Secret Behind Her Miracle Recovery Chapter 04

Mom’s expression softened.

“You should clean yourself up too. You look like a little dirt-covered kitten.”

I gave a quiet hum of acknowledgment.

The moment I stepped into the bathroom, Roo jumped off me and landed on the floor. It immediately dropped into a fighting stance, raising both fists toward me as if it were ready to attack at any second.

I listened to the footsteps approaching from outside.

So they had gotten a taste of what they wanted.

Now they were eager to speed things up and drain every last bit of energy from me to keep their precious daughter alive.

Just as I expected, Roo suddenly lunged at me and swung both fists.

Muffled, excited voices came from the other side of the door.

I grabbed the vase beside me and slammed it toward Roo.

It dodged, then came at me even harder.

And just like that, Roo and I were in the middle of a full-on brawl.

Of course, I couldn’t beat Roo in a straight fight.

So I pulled out the knife I had prepared beforehand and drove it deep into its flesh.

I could have killed it.

But if Roo died, Serena would die too.

I didn’t want her to die that easily.

No.

I wanted to make them suffer, little by little.

I wanted Serena to grow weaker and weaker until the illness consumed her, until she finally died in agony.

The people listening outside finally realized something was wrong.

They started pounding desperately on the door.

I gritted my teeth against the pain and kicked the badly wounded Roo away.

Only then did I open the door.

Mom was the only one standing outside.

Serena had collapsed after the sixth time I stabbed Roo. Dad had called the family doctor, who was downstairs watching over Serena.

Mom had been left behind to stop me.

The moment she saw Roo covered in wounds, she snapped.

She rushed at me and started hitting me like a madwoman.

“You’re insane! How could you do this?! What kind of monster tortures an animal like that?!”

I coldly shoved her away and held up my arms, exposing the scars covering my skin.

“Mom, these are the scars Serena’s biological parents left on me. I just didn’t want this little animal hurting me. Is that wrong?”

I stared straight into her eyes.

“Or do you want to add a couple more scars to the collection?”

Mom clearly hadn’t expected me to react that way.

When she saw the crisscrossing scars covering my arms, the words died in her throat.

Her face flushed red.

“This has nothing to do with Serena! You… you’re back now. Your father and I have been trying to make things up to you! I even prepared a room for you. I bought you new clothes…”

I let out a bitter laugh.

The so-called new clothes were nothing more than Serena’s old clothes that she didn’t want anymore.

And the room?

It was just a guest room with a quick coat of paint and a few cheap decorations.

They had never intended to truly accept me.

I had simply been too stupid to see it in my previous life.

My reaction clearly hurt Mom, but she still couldn’t help blaming me.

“Why did you hurt Roo? How could you be so cruel?! Even if it attacked you, it couldn’t have killed you!”

Then her eyes fell on the knife in my hand.

Her expression changed instantly.

“Why do you have a knife? Did you plan this from the beginning?! You were trying to kill it!”

I looked at her innocently.

“It’s a habit.”

I lowered the knife slightly.

“Before I came back here, Serena’s biological parents used to sneak into my room in the middle of the night while I was asleep. They were always trying to hurt me.”

“I could never sleep properly. Every little sound would wake me up.”

“So whenever someone came into my room to attack me or tried to take advantage of me, I made sure I had something nearby that could at least give me a chance to defend myself.”

Mom’s lips parted slightly.

I smiled at her cheerfully.

“But you don’t have to worry about me anymore. After I stabbed them twice, they stopped coming into my room at night.”

“And now that I’m home, you and Dad will protect me, right?”

Mom opened and closed her mouth.

Her eyes were filled with a complicated mixture of guilt, shock, and uncertainty.
