Eight Years As His Secret Lover, I Married The Top Mafia Don Next Saturday Chapter 02

Eight years of being his secret lover.

I’d negotiated deals with countless arms dealers for him, brokered multiple ceasefires, and endured endless whispers that I was nothing more than his stepping stone.

He’d always turned a blind eye to it all.

Now, in front of his own men, he refused to spare me even a shred of dignity.

Another man spoke up, clearly irritated.

“Sabrina, Don and Bella are about to get married. Stop pestering him before you ruin the Moretti family’s reputation.”

“Exactly. Chasing after a man who’s chosen another Associate will make you a laughingstock across Manhattan’s underworld.”

I looked at the very people I’d trained and promoted over the years, and laughter bubbled up inside me.

I’d planned to hand out wedding invitations to them. That idea was dead now.

I tightened my grip on my phone and swept my eyes across the crowd.

“You’ve all got the wrong idea. Let me introduce my fiancé properly.”

I raised my phone, ready to pull up a photo of me with Lucius Gambino, the current Don of the Gambino family.

A strong hand suddenly grabbed my wrist.

Slytherin snatched my phone away. He unleashed the full authority of a family boss and roared at everyone present.

“Get back to work, all of you!”

He dragged me by the arm toward his private office.

Behind us, whispers of contempt toward me and sympathy for Bella followed in our wake.

He slammed the door shut once we were inside, then roughly tugged at his tie, frustration evident on his face.

“I told you it was just a game. Do you have to drag my name through the mud to get what you want?”

“If it was only a game,” I stared at him coldly, “why didn’t you say a single word to clear my name when everyone called me a homewrecker?”

He fell silent for a moment, then spoke as if his reasoning was obvious.

“Bella’s new here. I had to protect her pride.”

What about mine? Was my pride so easy to trample on?

I grabbed my phone back from him and headed for the door.

I paused right before pulling the door closed, but I did not look back.

“You and Bella are welcome to attend my wedding next Saturday.”

I walked down to the underground parking garage, and my phone began to ring.

It was the Consigliere of the Colombo family.

“Principessa, Don Colombo wants to raise your salary by twenty percent if you’ll come back to run our group’s headquarters. Will you consider returning to the Colombo organization?”

I’d left my own family to stand by Slytherin, blinded by my love for him.

“I accept the offer,” I replied firmly. “I’m also bringing a major business deal with me. Make all the necessary preparations ahead of time.”

The Consigliere could barely contain his excitement on the other end of the line. “You have my word. Everything will be arranged perfectly.”

I ended the call and slipped into my car. I sent a quick message to Lucius Gambino. [Hold off on signing the contract for now. Wait for my update.]

Slytherin had complained that the family’s business was struggling and told me not to add more trouble.

But for eight years, I was the one who navigated tense relations and pulled the Moretti family through every crisis.

This partnership with the Gambino family was a lifeline that could save Moretti. I’d begged Lucius three separate times to agree to it.

The car pulled out of the parking garage. Street scenery blurred past the windows.

It was just like my eight-year relationship with Slytherin—gone in the blink of an eye.

I first met Slytherin at a grand family party in a ballroom.

He’d come to pick up Alice, my best friend and his younger sister.

He wore a crisp white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up neatly. A tiny mole sat at the corner of his eye when he smiled, and my heart skipped a beat right then.

One night, we both drank far too much at a gathering and ended up sleeping together without a second thought.

I chose to follow him into the Moretti family, starting out as a low-ranking Associate.

At first, he said he kept our relationship hidden to avoid accusations that he was using me to gain favor with the powerful Colombo family.

Later, after I worked my way up to become a Capo through my own skill, he claimed secrecy was needed to keep the peace between me and Alice.

I’d always believed he would give me a proper title eventually.

It was only when I saw Bella’s post about the marriage license that I finally woke up.

It was never that he refused to marry.

He just never wanted to marry me.

I drove back to the Moretti family mansion. My wedding with Lucius was in six days, so I needed to pack my belongings and leave for good.

I folded my clothes carefully and placed them into a suitcase. Just then, I heard the lock on my bedroom door begin to turn.
