Daughter vs Mother: A Love Rivalry from Hell Chapter 09
At first, I wanted to reject the police officer’s request.
“Kelvin’s life is hanging in the balance right now,” the police officer explained. “Her grandparents won’t be able to make it in time. We had no other choice but to contact you.”
My interest was piqued when I heard that Kelvin’s life was in danger.
I explained the situation to my supervisor and put in a request to take the rest of the day off before rushing to the hospital.
When the police officer spotted me, he pulled me aside and explained, “They’re still trying to save your ex- husband. They have no idea if he’s going to survive this. His wife has already been declared dead. As for
your daughter… The fact that she’s only ten years old complicates things.”
It turned out that the last thread of Jillian’s sanity had snapped when she discovered that Maisie was pregnant. On top of that, Kelvin aggravated her unstable mental state by threatening to send her away.
Jillian started collecting rodenticide in secret. She then pretended to apologize to Kelvin, expressing her
desire to mend their strained relationship. Once Kelvin and Maisie stopped being wary of her, she mixed
the rodenticide into Maisie’s glass of water.
Her plan was to just poison Maisie and her unborn child. She didn’t expect Kelvin to take a sip of Maisie’s
water as well.
The poison started taking effect while Kelvin and Maisie were sleeping. As a result, Kelvin was already foaming at the mouth when Jillian found him and called 911.
However, it was too late. The poison had spread through his entire bloodstream by then.
Gastric lavage was completely useless at this point. The doctors could only perform surgery on Kelvin to see whether they could alleviate his organ failure.
Meanwhile, Maisie’s constitution was weaker since she was pregnant. She died while the paramedics were rushing her to the hospital.
Jillian had cackled wickedly when she found out that Maisie had succumbed to the effects of the poison, shouting, “This is what you get for trying to steal Daddy from me! How naive of you to believe that you can win his favor just because you’re pregnant with his child!”
Her twisted expression was rather frightening. She looked nothing like a ten year old child.
However, when Jillian found out that Kelvin was hovering between life and death, she started panicking. She sank to her knees in front of the operating room and wailed loudly.
“I didn’t do it on purpose, Daddy! I just wanted to chase away the evil lady who seduced you! You’re going to wake up, right? You promised to take care of me for the rest of my life!”
I was stunned as I listened to Jillian’s words.
Although I had already predicted that Maisie would meet a gruesome end, I didn’t expect that Jillian’s
ruthlessness would end up serving karmic justice upon Kelvin as well.
The police were at a loss for what to do.
“Jillian is still a minor, but her actions have led to extremely serious consequences. We’ll be sending her
to a juvenile detention center. As for the other matters, do you think you can-”
I immediately interrupted the police officer, saying, “I’m sorry, but I won’t be doing anything on her behalf. Since my ex-husband had custody over her, her grandparents can handle what comes next.
“Besides, I’ll be moving abroad for work soon, so I won’t be able to help much. You’ve also watched the surveillance footage. If Kelvin hadn’t cheated on me and divorced me, the corpse lying in the morgue right now could very well have been me.”
The police officer sighed and expressed his understanding.
Jillian turned to glance at me. Her eyes burned with hatred as she screamed, “This is all your fault, Sienna! Daddy wouldn’t have been seduced by another woman if you were able to keep him by your side! He wouldn’t have accidentally drunk the poisoned water then!
“I hate you! I’ve hated you ever since I was a kid! Why did you have to fight me for Daddy? Why did you
hurt Daddy?”
Jillian directed all her loathing at me, but I remained completely unmoved.
After all, she and I had nothing to do with each other anymore. She wouldn’t be able to hurt me ever
again.
“Instead of hating me, Jillian, you should think about what you’re going to do if your beloved daddy dies. Don’t forget that you’re the one who killed him with your own two hands. I guess you’ll just have to
wallow in your self-hatred for the rest of your life.”
Jillian completely lost it upon hearing my words.
Tears streaked down her face as she knocked her head against the ground, repeating the same words
over and over again.
“I’m sorry, Daddy.”
I left the hospital and immediately put in a request at work to be transferred out of the country as soon as
possible.
In the end, I managed to secure a promotion for myself.
I received news from the hospital on the day that I was scheduled to board my flight.
Kelvin ultimately passed away due to organ failure.
His parents loathed Jillian for being responsible for their son’s death. They were determined to make sure that Jillian was sentenced with the most severe punishment.
They also didn’t intend to take care of her after she completed her sentence and was released from prison. They planned to let her fend for herself.
I had no idea if Jillian was going to live in a state of constant regret or endless resentment. Anything she did was of no concern to me anymore.
After all, a bright future was waiting for me.
