My So-Called Best Friend Sold My Number Chapter 09
Chapter 9 The Collapse
Ethan grew up in an orphanage, making him withdrawn and eccentric.
He was the one who pursued me first, and out of sympathy for his background, I was always incredibly gentle with him, practically taking care of him like a mother.
Later, when I realized his personality flaws were beyond fixing and that his dynamic with Chloe had crossed the line of normal friendship, I chose to leave.
But at the very least, he was grateful to me. I had been there for him during a dark time in his life.
After he found out I had been framed, even though he might have liked Chloe, he ultimately chose to do the decent thing.
Chloe was speechless. The roommates read through the chat logs, their faces twisting in utter disgust.
“That’s disgusting, Chloe!”
“Spreading sexual rumors? About your own friend?”
“I feel unsafe living with you!”
“Who knows when you’ll give my number to some disgusting creep? I’d lose my appetite for three days straight.”
“Are you even human? Daph treated you so well, and this is how you repay her?”
She snapped.
Eyes sharp. No guilt.
“Yeah, I made it up. So what?”
“Call the cops if you’ve got the guts!”
“Daphne, wow, I never knew you were this calculating!”
I held up my phone.
“Already did.”
Police came.

Took her away.
Publicly.
No escape.
Under intense police interrogation, Chloe confessed to spreading the rumors and earned herself a fifteen- day detention.
By the time she was released, the news of her backstabbing and rumor-mongering had spread across thie entire campus. Many students felt that keeping someone like her around was a safety hazard and petitioned the administration to expel her.
Eventually, the university agreed.
She came back once to pack.
Eyes full of hate.
“I won’t let this go.”
I smiled.
“You already didn’t.”
Under the disgusted glares of our peers, she slinked away from the campus in disgrace.
After this series of scandals, she had completely replaced me as the most notorious person in school.
Her aloof goddess persona was shattered, and the schoolfellow labeled her a pretentious b*tch.
A month after she left, the drama was still the hottest topic on campus. Her habit of keeping backup guys was exposed, and all her former suitors cut ties with her, demanding their gifts back.
She resorted to her classic line, “Those gifts were all for my best friend. Go ask her.”
But this time, I didn’t even need to clarify. Nobody believed her.
“You think we don’t know what kind of person you are? Trying to pin it on your best friend again?”
“Pay up, or we’re suing you for fraud!”
She had no choice but to return whatever she hadn’t used.
As for the money she had already blown, she couldn’t pay it back, resulting in debt collectors knocking on her door every single day.
I heard the scandal blew up so much that even people outside the university found out.
Humiliated and furious over her expulsion, her parents kicked her out of the house.
