My So-Called Best Friend Sold My Number Chapter 08

Chapter 8 Tearing Off The Mask

Campus gossip exploded.

No one could figure out how Chloe, the aloof goddess everyone put on a pedestal, ended up tangled up with a man like Victor.

People couldn’t process it.

Some pitied her.

Others? Not so kind.

No smoke without fire.

My roommates were obviously the latter.

They knew better.

We’d lived in the same dorm for years, and from the little details in our daily lives, they knew Chloe wasn’t nearly as pure and untouchable as everyone else thought.

Thinking about today’s spectacle, the corners of their lips lifted in unison, and they exchanged looks. Smirks were creeping up.

That triggered Chloe.

“I don’t even like old, ugly men like that!” she snapped.

“I only told him to add your WhatsApp so he’d leave me alone!”

“And you just sold me out?!”

I laughed.

“Sold you out?”

“So giving him your contact is betrayal?”

“Then what did you do to me?”

Silence.

She froze.

Then forced a smile.

“I was just mad… don’t take it seriously.”

“I don’t care about gifts at all.”

Her explanation just sounded like she was protesting too much.

“If you don’t like him, just say no.”

“Why dump him on me?”

She opened her mouth-

I cut her off.

“You rejected him just fine at the gate. Didn’t seem worried about hurting him then.”

She shut up.

Face red.

Nothing left to say.

“What exactly was your motive for pushing these men onto me?” I asked.

“Using me as your trash can?”

How could you think that? Aren’t we best friends? Isn’t this what best friends do for each other?” she said weakly.

I laughed.

“Best friends?”

“Having you as one is pure bad luck.”

I tossed my phone onto the table.

Screenshots.

Her chat with Ethan Cole.

She maliciously spread rumors about me.

On one hand, she played the innocent friend, saying it wasn’t her place to judge, and on the other, she called me shameless and said she couldn’t stand watching my behavior anymore.

She was the one who told Ethan I was fooling around with other men, that I had cheated on him before we broke up.

She was the one who photoshopped those pictures to drag my name through the mud. Her face went white.

Ethan might be unhinged, but after learning I was completely innocent and facing my relentless questioning, he finally admitted the truth and sent me these screenshots.

Her eyes widened in horror.

“No… he wouldn’t send you that.”

I stared at her.

“You added him behind my back.”

“Flirted. Played innocent.”

“You thought he’d fall for your act.”

Pause.

But you miscalculated. Maybe he did have a little crush on you, but he’s not entirely heartleys.”
