My So-Called Best Friend Sold My Number Chapter 06

Chapter 6 A Trap At The Gate

“I already said no. Why would I scam you for money? I’m not that kind of girl.”

Victor Kane bought every word.

He trashed me online daily. Dug up my address. Came straight to my door.

When I was already drowning-everyone spitting on me, my mind barely holding together-

Chloe made it worse.

She told his psycho wife I seduced him. Said I got him to send money. Buy me gifts.

That woman dragged me into the street. Ripped my clothes off. Her nails came for my eyes like claws.

Victor was disgraced and lost everything. So he blamed me.

Then he took me. Locked me in a basement.

Cut me slowly. Piece by piece.

Yeah… I remember that pain.

This time?

I’m giving it back.

My phone buzzed.

Victor sent a greasy, cringe emoji.

I almost gagged.

[Hey, uncle’s not cheap, alright? I just don’t get what young girls like. If buying stuff makes Chloe happy, I’ll spend.]

[But she keeps avoiding me. When does she usually leave campus?]

I typed fast.

[6:30 PM. Wait at the campus gate.]

Another flood of gross emojis.

[If we get together, you’re our matchmaker!]

I forced myself to reply.

[That’s between you two. Not my business.]

[Just add her on WhatsApp.]

Silence after that.

The next day.

Campus gate.

There he was-Victor Kane.

Fat. Sweaty. Loud.

Holding a massive bouquet of red roses like he was in some cheap movie.

Suit jacket. Jeans. Gray sneakers.

Dude looked like a walking disaster.

“Chloe! Finally found you!”

Booming voice. Everyone turned.

Chloe froze for a second.

Then-there it was.

That flicker of disgust.

Gone in a blink.

Replaced by her fake sweet smile.

“Why are you here? I told you-I’m studying. I don’t want to be bothered.”

Victor ignored that. Shoved the roses at her.

“You study, sure-but you need breaks, right? I won’t disturb your classes.”

“I got you a gift too. It’s nothing to me. Just take it.”

She almost pushed it back.

Then she saw it.

A gold necklace. Ugly as hell-but real gold.

Her eyes lit up.

But there were too many people watching, so she could only force herself to say,

“I’m not the kind of girl who cares about gifts. I have very strict standards for my boyfriend. I appreciate the thought, though.”

In front of so many people, accepting a gift from an old man was basically social suicide.

Victor looked deeply hurt, his eyes full of reluctance.
