My Bestie Used My Photo to Catfish a Man—She Never Knew He Was My Boss Chapter 04

I’d always assumed that whoever had Adrian wrapped around her finger must be smooth. Experienced. I forgot Adrian was an old-school kind of handsome. One thought of that stoic face and I shivered.

I clicked on his Instagram profile. Completely clean. No trace of upper-class luxury. No designer brands, no fancy restaurants, not even a corner of the estate I knew so well. That’s exactly why Lauren had assumed he

was broke.

A minimalist background. Simple, unpretentious life photos. No one would guess he was a trust fund kid.

I cringed so hard I nearly curled my toes off.

[If you don’t like it, I won’t call you that again.]

I quickly offered an out. He replied almost instantly.

[No. I like it.]

My face flushed bright red. Did Lauren’s photo edit me so much that Adrian didn’t recognize me? If that were true-then why had he called himself my boyfriend today?

A hundred questions raced through my mind. I tossed and turned under the covers. Another sleepless night.

The next day, I decided to test Adrian at work. After overseeing the closet organization and drafting next month’s shopping list, it was nearly dusk. I gathered the documents and knocked on his study door. During our review, I was too guilty to meet his eyes.

Once we finished, I hesitated before speaking. “Mr. Sterling, um… Why did you tell my friend you were my boyfriend yesterday?”

Adrian frowned slightly. “I was in a good mood.”

Then he raised an eyebrow, looking at me with amusement. “Ms. Bennett, I’ve got a question too. Who called me ‘babe’ yesterday?”
