My Best Friend Had a Baby to Inherit Riches, I Exposed Her Chapter 01

My best friend disguised herself as a nurse during my husband Garrett’s physical exam, stole his sample, and successfully got pregnant.

All because Old Mr. Sterling, the world’s richest man, issued a final decree before his death.

Whoever gave birth to the sole male heir of the family dynasty would inherit his multi-trillion-dollar fortune.

But my body made it incredibly difficult to conceive. After three years of marriage, I still hadn’t gotten pregnant.

My best friend Abby used to comfort me, even hunting down an extreme holistic bio-hacking regime for me, only to secretly move her own delivery room into Old Mr. Sterling’s hospital suite to give birth to a baby boy right in front of him.

“Audrey, I did this for your own good. Garrett is the sole male heir of the family dynasty, and the lineage can’t end with you.”

“Besides, I’m a traditional woman. Since Garrett took my innocence, he has to take responsibility to the end.”

“As for you, if you agree to waiving all marital assets and alimony rights, I might even let the baby call you godmother.”

Her face was a mask of pure triumph as she slammed the prenatal DNA test report right into my face.

I stared at the paper. Bold letters stared back at me:

[The results support a biological paternal relationship between the tested parties.]

Everyone expected me to break down.

Instead, my eyes caught a single line of text in the bottom corner, and I smiled.

***

The DNA report smacked against my skin and scattered across the floor.

At Old Mr. Sterling’s funeral, everyone wore traditional black funeral attire, except for my best friend Abby, who flaunted a flashy crimson party dress while holding her days-old son.

Her grin stretched from ear to ear, completely out of place for a funeral.

“The moment my pregnancy was confirmed, I moved back into the Sterling Estate to rest.”

“Don’t blame Garrett. After all, carrying the sole male heir of the family dynasty means he must carry on the family lineage.”

The room fell dead silent. The mourning guests turned to me, waiting for my explosive reaction.

But I just looked at that hidden line of text and smiled.

Suddenly, Abby’s phone buzzed. Garrett’s mother was shouting with sheer ecstasy on the other end.

“Abby, is it true? Our family has an heir? I have a grandson?”

Abby smirked at me, going on and on about how adorable her son was before hanging up with her head held high.

I looked at her, my voice deadpan.

“That child will never inherit Sterling’s multi-trillion-dollar estate.”

Abby scoffed, assuming I was just gasping for final breath.

“Audrey, has being the Sterling daughter-in-law driven you insane?”

“The DNA report states clearly that Garrett is Toby’s biological father.”

“According to the will, Toby is the only bloodline.”

“If you voluntarily sign the papers waiving all marital assets and alimony rights right now, I might still let Toby call you godmother.”

An hour later, Garrett’s mother burst into the funeral, so rushed she hadn’t even put on her coat.

The moment she saw the infant’s face, she gasped in awe.

“He looks exactly like him!”

Fearing I might lose control, Garrett’s mother immediately ordered security to block me.

“This baby is our crown jewel. Take absolute care of him.”

She turned to Abby, grabbing her hands. “Abby, honey, you’re still in your post-natal recovery period. Sit down, don’t overexert yourself.”

“I’ll call the lawyer over right now to transfer the estate to your name!”

Then she whipped around, throwing a look of pure disgust at me.

“Unlike some people who can’t even produce a single egg in three years.”

“If I were you, I’d pack my bags and get out voluntarily, spare yourself the embarrassment of being kicked out.”

I kept my eyes locked on the infant in the nanny’s arms.

“Don’t bother calling the lawyer. She won’t get a single dime of that inheritance.”

Abby sized me up, her voice dripping with condescending charity.

“Accept reality, Audrey. Your infertility is karma for your sins. You seduced Garrett in college and always wore those revealing low-cut slip dresses. Do classy women dress like that?”

“Only a decent, proper woman like me deserves to birth the Sterling heir.”
