I Hid the Don’s Son for Three Years Chapter 04
Old Don crouched down, wiped Johnny’s tears,
and lifted him onto his hip. “What’s your name?
How old are you?”
Johnny was sobbing so hard he could barely
speak, his little fists clenched. “Johnny. I’m three.”
The Donna stood nearby, her voice trembling.
“Three years ago…” She paused. “That was the
year Luca had his accident. The year Gia left.”
Old Don and the Donna exchanged a glance.
Then they both rushed over, frantically untying me.
The Donna gripped my shoulders, eyes red. “Whose child is this? Is it Luca’s? Why does he
look so much like him? Tell me!”
Before I could answer, the door burst open again.
Luca stumbled in, an IV needle still dangling from his hand, hospital gown unbuttoned. He swayed, then stepped in front of me, arms out.
“You’re not touching her.”
The doctor chased after him, sweating. “Don Luca
– you can’t be here –”
Luca ignored him. He turned and stared at my
face, his voice cracking.
“All these years… why didn’t you come find me?”
He pulled me into his arms, resting his forehead
on my shoulder.
“I’m sorry. I forgot you. I just remembered.”
My throat tightened. I didn’t push him away. I put
my hand on his back and rubbed gently.
The Donna stood there, stunned, watching her son
act like he’d found a lost treasure.
She stamped her foot. “You – why does it have to
be her? Oh, for heaven’s sake.”
Just then, Johnny walked over and tugged my
shirt. He looked up at me with his little face-
almost identical to Luca’s.
He tilted his head, studying Luca, then asked me,
“Mom, is he my dad?”
I ruffled his hair. “Yes.”
Before Johnny could say anything else, Rebecca
let out a shrill scream.
“What about me? What do I do now? What about
our adopted child? You promised we’d raise him together. Now that Gia’s back, you’re just kicking
me out?”
No one answered.
Her chest heaved. She turned to the button men
standing there, screaming, “Are you all dead? Grab
her!”
Then she grabbed the blade from the table and
lunged at Johnny.
“It’s all your fault, you little bastard! You’re not Luca’s real son – that bitch Gia picked you up off
the street and raised you to look like him!”
Luca moved fast. He pulled Johnny close and
shielded him.
The knife went straight into Luca’s palm. Blood ran
down his wrist.
The bodyguards finally reacted and subdued
Rebecca.
Old Don’s face went pale. “Luca, get that bandaged.”
Luca held Johnny – still dazed in one arm and
looked at me. “If they both come with me, I’ll go.”
Rebecca’s face was white as paper. “What spell
has she cast on your whole family? She should
have disappeared long ago.”
